In our backyard, we have different varieties of bananas that bring happiness and blessings to our family. Among them, the Gold Finger variety is my favorite because it grows fast, tastes sweet, and gives plenty of fruits. Today, I want to share my own story about how we started planting bananas and how they became a big part of our family life.
During the pandemic, my husband decided to plant bananas in our backyard. At first. We only wanted fruits for our family’s food supply. We were all staying at home, so we thought it would be good to use our time for planting. I didn’t expect that those small banana plants would grow tall and give us so many fruits a few years. What started as a simple idea turned into wonderful blessing for us.
The Gold Finger banana is very easy to grow. My husband planted the suckers directly into the soil in our backyard. The soil here is soft and gets a lot of sunlight, which helps the plants grow healthy. Every morning, my husband waters the plants while I clean around them and remove dry leaves. Sometimes, our little one joins us, happily playing with the soil. Seeing our child enjoy the garden makes me feel peaceful and grateful.
After several months, I noticed a purple flower growing from the banana plant. I was very excited because it means fruits will soon appear. A few weeks later, small green bananas started to grow. We checked the, every day, waiting patiently for the right time to harvest. When the fruits were ready, our whole family felt proud and thankful.
When our bananas ripened, we shared the, with my in-laws, my parents, our neighbors and even my child’s teacher. Everyone was happy to receive fresh fruits from our backyard. Sometimes, when the harvest is more than enough, we also sell the, in our community. The small income helps with our daily needs, but what truly makes me happy is being able to share our blessings with others.
The Gold Finger banana is sweet and delicious. Its texture is soft and it stays firm even when ripe. We enjoy eating it as a snack or dessert. I slice it and chill it in the fridge for a refreshing afternoon snack. Even the leaves are useful, we use the, to wrap a food and cover dishes during gatherings.
Bananas are not just tasty but also very healthy. They are rich in potassium and vitamins that keep our body strong and full of energy. My child loves bananas, especially after playing outside. I’m happy that we have healthy snacks right from our backyard.
Planting bananas has taught me many lessons in life. It reminds me to be patient, hardworking and thankful. Growing a banana tree takes time, but when it finally bears fruits, its all worth it. Just like in life. We need to work hard and wait for the right time for blessings to come.

Never tried planting bananas. Oo nga noh, dapat pala nagtatanim nyan. Matakaw pa naman kami sa saging haha
Yes, you should try planting some. It’s satisfying talaga pag makapag harvest ng sariling tanim. 😁
Oo nga. I tried planting before, pero kamatis naman yun. And pag namumunga na talaga, it feels like nagkaron ako ng new baby hahaha. At lalo pag maghaharvest na. Sobrang saya.
