Today I would like to share with you my harvest! That's right! The day has come to harvest the fruits of the banana tree!
Historic
In 2021, my wife asked to exchange the coconut tree that was not growing on our land for a banana tree. So we went to a specialized store and discovered that they had banana seedlings that bore fruit. The initial plan was to use an ornamental banana tree, but with the possibility of having fruit, we adapted and decided on the spot to purchase the available plant.
In 2022 the banana tree (generation 1/g1) bore fruit for the first time. We remove the original plant immediately after harvesting, as as far as we know, each banana tree bears fruit only once in its life. I also took the opportunity to make three seedlings of the plant, only one of which survived (g2). The daughter banana tree is located in the same place as the mother banana tree.
From the daughter banana tree I managed to take five seedlings, which I distributed to my relatives. They are the granddaughter banana trees! Today I have four banana trees (g3) planted in my yard.
My current plantation
Third generation banana plantThis is the third generation of banana trees, and we have already had two harvests. For the first time we have four banana trees planted at the same time. The photo on the side shows the oldest one, with several side shoots that were not removed at the right time and that I had to leave now that the banana tree is bearing fruit.
If they were removed, they could weaken the support and the banana tree could fall under the weight of the bunch.
In the lower left corner, a new coconut tree that we tried to introduce into the garden, but without success. There was no growth whatsoever!
This bunch of bananas will be the second to be harvested in 2024. That's because I just harvested one, which I'll show below. And we still have another one in development that will mature more quickly. Let's see case by case!
This bunch of bananas will be the largest, with the largest quantity of bananas. We can't say whether the bananas will be big, full (fat), but based on the quantity, we already know there will be a lot.
The tip of the bunch, this red thing, we call it the heart of the banana tree, and in the legends of my house we must cut it off as soon as new bananas stop appearing. It will be removed at the next garden maintenance :D
Highlighted on the side, you can see the pollinating insects that were attracted to the plant. We have bees and wasps. I don't know how to recognize the types, so feel free to share your knowledge in the comments.
These red leaves fall and curl, as do the yellowed tips that are undeveloped bananas. All of this falls to the ground along with a sap that attracts crawling insects as well. I remove everything to keep the grass clean.
I once left it for too long and the sap killed the grass!
This is the third bunch of bananas we will harvest in 2024. The heart is still opening healthy bananas, so we don't know how to estimate the quantity. It looks like it will be average.
The position of this banana tree is inclined due to its search for the sun, which can be a complication when fruiting due to the weight of the bunch and the tendency to knock the plant down prematurely.
We will have to use struts.
For now we won't worry about that.
That's the bunch of bananas I just picked. Unfortunately I didn't take a photo of him before taking it, I only thought about creating this post after I had already taken him down.
This is actually the part I kept attached to the stem in the hope that it wouldn't ripen too quickly. It was much bigger, but I already released the more mature bunches to put in the fruit bowl.
These are the ripest bunches of bananas that I removed to leave in the fruit bowl. You can see that they are quite large.
This banana tree is a variation of the silver type. The silver banana is not big, it has a sweet flavor. It is widely consumed in Brazil. We always buy this variety of banana, of course now we won't need to buy it for a while.

Of course, I have several bunches in different stages of maturity, our fear is that they will all mature at the same time, so we keep one bunch separate from the other. Bananas are said to emit a gas that induces nearby fruit to ripen.
These are the ready-to-eat fruits that are already in the fruit bowl. I held it with the palm of my hand open so you could get an idea of the size of the fruit. Very cool, don't you think?!
Now the next step is to cut down the banana tree that produced the fruits and replant a seedling in the same location. This will be really messy!

Hoje eu gostaria de compartilhar com vocês minha colheita! Isso mesmo! Chegou o dia de colhermos os frutos da bananeira!
Histórico
Em 2021 minha esposa pediu para trocar o coqueiro que não estava se desenvolvendo em nosso terreno por uma bananeira. Então fomos até uma loja especializada e descobrimos que eles tinham mudas de bananeira que frutificava. O plano inicial era usarmos uma bananeira ornamental, mas com a possibilidade de ter frutos, adaptamos e decidimos na hora por adquirir a planta disponível.
Em 2022 a bananeira (geração 1 / g1) frutificou pela primeira vez. Removemos a planta original logo após a colheita, pois pelo que sabemos cada bananeira frutifica apenas uma vez na sua vida. Também aproveitei para fazer três mudas da planta, das quais apenas uma sobreviveu (g2). A bananeira filha está alocada no mesmo lugar da bananeira mãe.
Da bananeira filha eu consegui tirar cinco mudas, que distribui para meus parentes. São as bananeiras netas! Hoje eu tenho quatro bananeiras (g3) netas plantadas em meu quintal.
Minha plantação atual
Bananeira de terceira geraçãoEssa é a terceira geração de bananeiras, sendo que já tivemos duas colheitas. Pela primeira vez temos quatro bananeiras plantadas ao mesmo tempo. A foto ao lado mostra a mais antiga, com diversos brotos laterais que não foram removidos no tempo certo e que precisei deixar agora que a bananeira está frutificando.
Se fossem retirados, poderiam enfraquecer a sustentação e a bananeira poderia tombar com o peso do cacho.
No canto inferior esquerdo, um novo coqueiro que tentamos introduzir no jardim, mas sem sucesso. Não apresentou crescimento algum!
Este cacho de bananas será o segundo a ser colhido em 2024. Isso porque acabei de colher um, que vou mostrar mais abaixo. E ainda temos outro em desenvolvimento que ficará maduro mais rapidamente. Vamos ver caso a caso!
Essa penca de bananas será a maior, com a maior quantidade de bananas. Não sabemos dizer se as bananas serão grandes, bem cheias (gordas), mas pela quantidade já sabemos que serão muitas.
A ponta do cacho, essa coisa vermelha, chamamos de coração da bananeira, e nas lendas da minha casa devemos cortar tão logo deixem de surgir novas bananinhas. Ele será removido na próxima manutenção do jardim :D
Em destaque ao lado, você pode ver os insetos polinizadores que foram atraídos pela planta. Temos abelhas e vespas. Eu não sei reconhecer os tipos, então fique a vontade se quiser compartilhar seu conhecimento nos comentários.
Essas folhas vermelhas caem e se enrolam, assim como as pontas amareladas que são bananas que não desenvolveram. Tudo isso cai ao chão junto com uma seiva que atrai insetos rasteiros também. Eu removo tudo para manter a grama limpa.
Uma vez deixei por tempo demais e a seiva matou a grama!
Esse é o terceiro cacho de bananas que colheremos em 2024. O coração ainda está abrindo bananas saudáveis, então não sabemos estimar a quantidade. Parece que será mediano.
A posição desta bananeira é inclinada devido a sua procura pelo sol, o que pode ser um complicador quando frutificar devido ao peso do cacho e a tendência em derrubar a planta antes do tempo.
Teremos de usar escoras.
Por enquanto ainda não vamos nos preocupar com isso.
Esse é o cacho de bananas que acabei de colher. Infelizmente não fiz uma foto dele antes de tirar, só pensei em criar essa postagem depois que eu já havia derrubado ele.
Na verdade essa é a parte que mantive presa ao caule na esperança que não amadureça tão rapidamente. Ele era muito maior, mas eu já soltei os cachos mais maduros para colocar na fruteira.
Esses são os cachos de banana mais maduros que eu removi para deixar na fruteira. Você pode perceber que são bem grandes.
Essa bananeira é uma variação do tipo prata. A banana prata não é grande, tem sabor adocicado. É muito consumida no Brasil. Nós sempre compramos esse variedade de banana, claro que agora não precisaremos comprar por um tempo.
Aproveitei e doei alguns cachos para os familiares que passaram por aqui. Também fiz uma foto melhor para vocês ficarem com água na boca:
É claro que tenho vários cachos em diversas fases de amadurecimento, o nosso receio é que todas fiquem maduras ao mesmo tempo, por isso mantemos um cacho separado do outro. Dizem que as bananas emitem um gás que induz o amadurecimento das frutas próximas.
Essas são as frutas prontas para consumo que já estão na fruteira. Segurei com a palma da mão aberta para você ter noção do tamanho do fruto. Muito legal, não acha?!
Agora o próximo passo é derrubar a bananeira que produziu os frutos e replantar uma muda no mesmo local. Isso vai dar uma sujeira danana!

Banana plants is very easy to propegate or planting. According to the book I read, within 9 months this kind of valuable plants will produced banana blossoms and banana fruits. A very beautiful garden and farm land you have my friend.

Que legal mano! Até o gosto dessa banana posso apostar que é mais saborosa, sem carbureto que o pessoal utiliza para fazer com que as bananas retiradas verde amadureçam no transporte até as feiras e mercados. Além de ser uma droga a banana não fica saborosa.
