Singapore - My Most Expensive Meal This Year @ DOMO

I think I just had my most expensive meal this year! But there's a catch!

So the background is, one of my close friends got a promotion at work (happy for him because he worked so hard for it!), and he suggested to celebrate the occasion over a meal at a decent restaurant, and the catch is, this was his treat so I didn't have to pay a single cent! Haha.

So the restaurant he suggested was DOMO Modern Japanese at one of the 5 star hotels over here. It was my first time there and I really liked the ambience. Very high end, and it looked like the people dining there were quite well to do. Fortunately, they did not have any dress code so we did not have to dress up for the lunch.

The first dish we ordered was Maki Roll. There's tempura prawn, along with tobiko, crab meat, kimchi and cucumber in it. The tempura prawn tasted really good and this dish deserved full marks for me. As for the cost, you might be slightly shocked to know this is SGD 33.57 (USD 26.28). BUT they have a 1 for 1 promotion so we each ordered one roll, so the actual price of this one roll is halved.

Then we proceeded to the lunch set, which was more value for money versus a la carte. Every lunch set came with a starter salad, which was good but nothing wow.

After the salad, we were served the main! There's grilled miso chicken with teriyaki sauce, a chirashi taco, prawn chanwanmushi, rice, miso soup, and mixed fruits. Including the salad, this lunch set was SGD 70.74 (USD 55.37)!!! But once again, they had a 1 for 1 promotion, so we each ordered a lunch set, and the price is halved once again.

Taste wise, I think the best had to be the chirashi taco, the meat was very fresh and the flavours were great. The grilled chicken was done well, but not wow either. After all, I wonder how amazing can chicken taste? Haha.

Even though this was a treat, even after factoring in the 1 for 1 promo, all these food still came out to slightly above SGD 52 (USD 40), which is probably the most expensive meal I have had this year I think. Aside from the food, I think the prices also factored in the ambience and service from the staff which I think was great. It was very cosy and we were very well taken care of from start to finish. Definitely not something I would or can afford to eat daily, but it's probably a good option for special occasions.
