Another announcement about extremely important updates to Splinterlands was published yesterday involving the new player experience and I believe I should talk about it by trying to analyze these changes from the new user's perspective.
There were three main changes that affect new players:
Mana Cap increased to 40.
After reaching Bronze III it is no longer possible to drop to the Novice league.
The Splinterlands team will be adding (low skill) bots to make the journey easier for new players.
How will all this help the game attract more players and keep them playing? Let's start by addressing the possible addition of bots to the Novice league. This measure will certainly make life easier for players who will no longer have to face hundreds of optimized bots to win. However, my experience with other games that take this same approach reminds me that players don't like to know they are facing bots. That is, if the added bots are called Bot 125 this could potentially drive away players who don't like to feel like they are in a tutorial.
This could easily be reversed if Splinterlands makes it clear that the Novice league really is a tutorial as then players would understand that it would be a learning time until they actually "start playing" in the Bronze league.
After reaching Bronze III he can no longer drop to the "tutorial " and will have to face other players (and the bots) to keep moving up. You may wonder if this doesn't stay pretty much the same but there are some subtle differences that help a lot. Besides the player having more time to learn about how to play, in the Bronze league there will already be matches with battle rules (75% chance) and this contributes a lot to these players experiencing the true strategy of Splinterlands, after all this is not just a game of assembling teams, you need to create compositions that are effective according to the rules of battle.
Since most battles in the novice league have little mana available and it is always the Standard rule the strategy factor is practically non-existent and this was always the point I criticized the most about the new player experience. All these changes together will certainly help improve the experience for new players and contribute to keep them playing Splinterlands for longer.
Another thing they mentioned that will help new players a lot will be the hints and tips they will receive. I really don't know how this will be implemented in an easy to understand way, but it is knowledge that needs to be passed on to new players in a quick and intuitive way, especially on how to do hints properly.
I agree with all these additions but I believe more needs to be done not only targeting new players, but focusing on improving the game as a whole, after all much was done thinking about the economy of the game but few substantial changes occurred in the actual gameplay. The Lands are an expected change with the addition of spells but I don't know how this will be implemented and if it will have the impact that everyone imagines.
Anyway all these changes are positive and new measures should be adopted aiming at the sustainability of Splinterlands in the long term. What is your opinion about these modifications? Do you believe they will be effective or that a lot still needs to be done to achieve the goal of improving the lives of new players? Leave your answer in the comments!

I hope these new changes will bring positive effect and attract more new players into the game. We all know we need fresh blood in here.
We need lots of fresh blood. Stagnation does nothing for the long game.
I don't believe it will be these changes that will bring in new players, but they are the foundation needed to allow future updates to achieve this goal.
Nice explanation!!!

However, I think the additional 1DEC fee to update the market or renting price will impact negatively new user experiments. i don't know if Splinterlands will get new users after it's officially rolled out. Let's see.
This fee does not affect new users as negatively as it will only encourage stability in the period that a card will remain leased

A lot is evolving and improving for new players, and I believe this will continue to happen in future updates, so it's worth trying to play Splinterlands again!
Please more gameplay agreed we want people to come for a fun game
Indeed the improvements and additions of fun layers to the gameplay are what will attract new players, but these structural changes are important to allow the gameplay to be enhanced with a functional foundation.
Ya I understand that. At least bronze is better now with at least 1 ruleset most of the time. The bots were too strong with their perfect lineups at standard ruleset. And no more dropping to novice for bronze players so ya these improvements are great. Looking forward to lane gameplay and battles 2.0 hope it all gets out this year :D
In my opinion, the most important part of next month's success is increasing human player base. Superb content my friend. Thanks for sharing into the #THGaming community!
