There are two main ways to earn DENAR. How well you run your army troops in Crownrend has much to do with how much DENAR you can get. The two main ways to get DENAR are:

Your mined DENAR is safer when it has high toughness, so you can focus on long-term resource gathering without worrying about raids. This method is good if you'd rather play the game passively, concentrating on building your kingdom and slowly getting better over time.

The bad thing about improving your Army Toughness is that it doesn't help you get more DENAR from raiding other kingdoms. Besides, other players could still raid you if you have a lot of DENAR that is not claimed timely, as higher ARMY STRENGTH can evade you and take your lovely mined DENAR because many players will be focusing on the second strategy to level up their AEMY STRENGTH as fast as you do for your ARMY TOUGHNESS. This means you need to find a balance between defence and offence to make your progress faster.

Increasing the strength of the army is the key to more RAIDS to gather more DENAR from those raiding other kingdoms effectively.
