Variety is undoubtedly one of Splinterlands’ most interesting features. No two battles are exactly alike, because various factors are constantly changing. The battle rules, the amount of available mana, the elements that can be used, and even each opponent’s decisions mean there’s always something new, it’s impossible for everything to be the same. This dynamic keeps the game interesting and creates situations that require constant adaptation. It even reminds me of a saying (Greek? I think so) that goes, “A man cannot step into the same river twice, because neither the river nor the man is the same.” It seems Splinterlands takes this to heart...
Plus, the matches are fast-paced and fit very well with the rhythm of modern life. We don’t always have time to spend hours on a single game, and Splinterlands manages to deliver strategic battles in just a few minutes. That’s why I still believe the game has a lot of potential, and I hope that, at some point, it can regain the momentum it had back in mid-2021, when I first started playing. The concept fits quite well with the way we live today, though I’m not sure if that was planned from the start or if it just turned out to be a coincidence. But anyway, I wanted to mention this today because there’s light at the end of the tunnel.
Among all the possibilities created by the battle rules, Reverse Speed is one of my favorites. This rule completely changes the way we view speed and turns a trait normally considered a negative into a major advantage. Slow monsters, which are often overlooked or sidelined precisely because of their low speed, now play a much more important role. This kind of change highlights one of Splinterlands’ greatest strengths. A card that seems of little use in a given situation can become extremely valuable when battle conditions change. Instead of having only cards that serve to expand your collection, many of them can fulfill a specific role depending on the rules and the strategy employed.
With Reverse Speed, the slowest monsters now act first, opening up possibilities for combinations that might not have been considered in a typical battle. In some cases, even lower-level cards can become interesting choices precisely because of their low speed. It’s exactly this possibility of discovering new uses and exploring different options that makes this rule so much fun, in my opinion.
In today’s battle, I took advantage of this reversal to use some monsters that don’t usually appear very often in my strategies. Under these conditions, however, they became much stronger options. After all, in a traditional battle, speed directly influences both attack and defense, as it helps monsters attack first and also increases the chances of avoiding enemy attacks. When Reverse Speed kicks in, that whole logic changes. Cards that might normally be overlooked end up becoming dangerous weapons, and whoever best understands this shift can gain a significant advantage. I really enjoy this twist and the new possibilities it creates. Now, keep following the battle and find out how I used this dynamic to build my strategy!

The Reverse Speed rule will be the main factor in determining the dynamics of this battle, but the limited amount of mana will also require some careful choices, after all, we only have 26 in this battle. On the other hand, all elements are available, which expands the possibilities for building our strategy.

When choosing a tank, my opponent followed a strategy quite similar to mine. He used a card that, in addition to having good speed, possessed an ability capable of further increasing the chances of dodging. I, on the other hand, preferred to go with a tank with protection against magic attacks, since that would be the only type of attack capable of ignoring dodges.
Although my opponent’s idea was interesting, there’s an important detail in his strategy. He didn’t exactly choose a tank, he took a gamble. His card relied much more on the chances of avoiding attacks than on the ability to withstand incoming damage.

To build my backline, I followed a fairly simple idea: use monsters with low speed and direct attacks at the enemy team’s most vulnerable positions. Still, I made two exceptions when choosing monsters.
The first was a monster with higher speed, something that initially seemed to go against the Reverse Speed strategy. However, its low mana cost and the ability that prevents its attacks from missing made it an interesting option. The second exception was a ranged monster that increases the melee attack power of the entire team, which made up the majority of my picks and I thought this would actually be very useful.
The remaining monsters were chosen primarily for their ability to put pressure on the opponent’s backline. Sneak and Opportunity are abilities that always help create good opportunities, especially when we use a summoner capable of removing the opponent’s shields and have speed, even when it works in reverse, working in our favor. I really enjoy using this type of strategy; it always works very well.

My opponent actually came up with a good idea when putting together his strategy, but he ended up not fully taking advantage of the benefits available to him. His summoner provided significant bonuses to magical monsters, and if he had focused his team on that type of attack, he might have secured the victory or, at the very least, made the battle much more balanced.
Another problem was the choice for the first slot; the absence of a truly durable tank left the monsters positioned in the back more vulnerable and compromised the protection of the entire team. A strategy can start with sound logic, but when some key points aren’t properly developed, the rest of the lineup ends up suffering the consequences as well, which worked out well for me, since I won with relative ease!

Well, that was today’s battle, and I hope you enjoyed it! Thanks for reading this far and spending a little of your time with my words and thoughts. See you next time!
