Moonkarts | Power-Up cards Makes a Real Difference when Playing Multiplayer

(edited)

Hello MoonKarters!

I hope all of you are having a fantastic day with your family and friends and also enjoying this amazing play2earn Racing game in your daily free time. It's been around 2 months since I discovered this game in Hive and have been playing since, along with hundreds of other players. Now, though it is a web3 game made by the ArcadeColony that runs on our decentralised Hive blockchain, that doesn't spoil the feeling of racing with high-speed Karts in a complete 3D Environment at all, which is the main USP of this game. So without a doubt, the team has worked really hard on this project and that’s why I like to play this game. Because playing it gives me the same feel as playing a top-notch racing game on web2 platforms. Now, being a crypto-based web3 game, it also has the play2earn features and asset ownership, which basically means whatever you buy or earn in the game, all those in-game assets will be owned by you and not the game company, so you can easily buy, sell or trade your In-game NFT cards or tokens easily without any hurdles. Another feature that I must share is that this game doesn't need a lot of money to start your journey, as owning only a Kart and a Driver NFT card will make you able to play the game, without making a dent in your pocket, of course.

My Journey with Moonkarts

Now talking about my journey in this game, I discovered Moonkarts around 2 months ago through a Hive post and decided to check the game out. After taking a look at the gameplay mechanics, I was really impressed because it was a complete 3D arcade style Kart racing game that is very fun and thrilling to play, not to mention that playing this game competitively will also give you chance to earn monetary rewards in form of Colony crypto token, which is the in-game reward token of MoonKarts and also the governance token. After my first positive impression, I didn't take much time to decided joining the game and initially, I nought some credit tokens, which is the stable token in this game and with it, I bought a simple and entry level common type Kart, Driver and some Accessories NFT cards to start my journey in moonkarts and check out the game and after playing a handful of races in Single player mode, I was already addicted to it. But sadly, the performance of the common type cards was not that great and I realised that in order to play competitively in the multiplayer mode, I must get my hands on some solid level cards. So as thought, I started saving some money to be invested in the game to buy some cool and stronger cards and meanwhile, I also started learning about the game, like all the basics, mechanics and different types of NFT cards in the game and their roles in races.

Initial Investment

After around a week, I was finally able to grab some money and with that limited amount, I thought it would be best to buy a couple of Centauri packs and open them to try my luck and I also bought a decent amount of Colony tokens so that I can be ready to earn rewards from multiplayer mode. Now, I bought 5 Centauri packs and I would like to say that the outcome was definitely better than average, because I received 1 Gold foil commons, 2 Epics and a good bunch of Rare ans common cards from those 5 packs, including 4 power-up cards that are also very important assets in the game, especially for generating fuel. Now, before straight away hitting the multiplayer races, I decided to practice with these new cards first and get used to the handling while learning the 3 different race tracks that are currently available on Moonkarts.

Losing Streak in Multiplayer

After spending some days in Single player and learning a few new things like drifting on tight corners, locations of the Colony and orbital tokens, dead corners in those tracks, when I finally gained some experience, it was time for me to jump into the multiplayer mode and compete against other real players. So, that’s why I did and started racing on those asphalt race tracks in multiplayer mode. But, I didn't realise the multiplayer matches, where we race against other players, would be much more difficult for me than the single player mode, where we just ride on tracks alone to practice. In spite of having an epic Quasar Sport Kart card with an Epic Engine Refinement card, multiple Rare Drivers and other Tech and Accessory cards and 4 strong Power-Up cards, I was unable to secure first place even for a single time, even after playing so many races. After a while, I started getting demotivated, thinking I had lost the charm of playing games or that this game is just not for me. After some time, I even stopped playing for a while and just staked the best cards in my possession in Auto Vault to generate fuel.

Analyse and Learn

However, only recently I again gathered some courage and started playing races again. But this time I came in with a different mindset, as I was here this time not to win but to analyse why I losing continuously. And here are the points that I found.

The best cards that I was using were only the Epic Kart and engine along with a Rare Driver. But my opponents were coming with Legendary Karts all the time. Now, by default, a level 1 Legendary Kart has significantly more stats than a level 1 Epic card. So for the whole match, my opponents had more advantage in the race track than I did, which made a big difference at the end of the race.

Since the beginning, I was maintaining a balance between generating fuel and using that fuel to race in multiplayer mode, so that I don't end up spending more fuel than I generate. To achieve this, I revoked myself completely from using Power-Up cards because they ate a lot of fuel. On the other hand, while staked, these power-up cards also generate the maximum amount of fuel per day. The Fuel potential/cost of these power-up cards is a whopping 42.5, which means that each of these cards will generate 42.5 Fuel per day when staked and on the other hand, each of them will cost 42.5 fuel per multiplayer race.

A New Approach

Now, because the best cards that I have are just a level 1 Epic Kart and Engine Refinement, excluding those power-up cards and my opponents were using legendary cards and upgraded epic cards against me. So no matter how efficiently I drove my Kart, I was unable to lose them and was finishing the races always last or second-to-last positions. So, in order to bring some change in my playing style, I decided to try using the power-up cards and see if they make any difference. As thought, I unstated 2 of my Power-up cards - Moonkarts Missiles and Lunar Bolt. The result? Well, I am happy to share that they really turned the tables for me and gladly, on the first day of using them, I won first place in multiplayer for the first time!

Power-Up cards make a difference

No doubt now, using power-up cards really makes a difference in Moonkarts and they are not just in the game just to be locked up in Auto Vault. Especially if you are using cards with lower stats than your opponents and losing every time, the power-up cards can really make a difference. For my strategy, I started trying to fire missiles at my opponent during the first lap of the race and after each successful hit, not only the missile damage the opponent’s kart but also reduce its handling for the whole race. The more upgraded Moonkarts Missile card you use, the better the effect and in my case, I am only using a level 1 card and it causes 25% damage to the Kart and also reduces the Handling by 4%. However, please keep in mind that after using your missile card each time, it will be unusable for a short time, during which it enters a cooldown period. For a level 1 Missile card, there’s an 18-second cooldown period and while in a race, you can easily check your cooldown period by simply looking at the bar around the missile icon.

Now, after getting a phenomenal result using one of the power-up cards, I am really feeling motivated again, like I have solved a big life problem of mine. So, I will be fully focusing on playing Multiplayer mode again while using those power-up cards and see which ones suit me the best. I would also advise you all, especially those who are using low-level cards and are frustrated from losing back to back to start using power-up cards and see how it goes.
