Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra REVIEW

Today I decided to try the new Dragon Ball MOBA, and after trying it, i have good and bad things to say, so, I decided to write a review.

Dragon Ball is my favorite saga. I remember when I was a kid, it was broadcast on TV, and it wasn't as easy as its today, if you miss an episode now, you can find it online.
I'll say that I've played practically most of the Dragon Ball games, excluding a few I didn't like. I've seen all the movies, from the first to the most recent. Basically, I've never missed a thing. That's why I tried this new game, even though I don't like MOBA games at all.

I have a mixed opinion. I'll start with the positives. I don't want the negatives to stand out at first glance, but it's fair to mention them.
I'd like to point, I've tried the game on Playstation 5 and phone.

Good things:

  • Simple controls. This is a very important feature for a MOBA game, especially on phone.
  • Modifiers, which make each match unique.
  • Different character classes: damage, tank, and technical (support).
  • Get free skins playing (they only change the color of clothing).
  • Various match types: classic match, quick match, and more.
  • Matchmaking: works quickly, with some afk, but like all MOBAs.

So far, everything seems great, but there are some negative points:

  • Very simple graphics. On a Playstation 5, it feels like I'm playing on a cheap phone. I haven't tried it on my Switch 2, but it's probably the same. As for the phone, we're in the same boat, with maximum graphics, it looks like a low-budget studio made it. I understand it's a mobile version and not everyone has a very good phone, but what good is 60 fps with maximum graphics, and it looks so simple? It doesn't look bad in quality, it looks simple, the drawing, the contour lines, or at least that's my impression. And it's important to mention that I don't care about the graphics. In 2025, I'm still playing retro Gameboy games, and I don't think they're bad games. They just could have put a little more effort into the lines, the colors, the particles... (This is my personal opinion, of course)

  • Pay2Win? Unlocking characters by paying...... (or playing 100h maybe) I haven't bought any. I can't judge 100% whether it's P2W, but since each character has unique abilities, simply, they're less played, you have less knowledge of how to play them, not to mention whether they're very OP or not, since I haven't see any.
  • A single stage? I don't know if there are more stages when you rank up a lot, but everytime I've played its always the same stage. This is common in MOBAs, but Dragon Ball has many possible stages, and it would be nice if they took advantage of them.

Things I'd like to see added:

  • Maybe something like factions, where you can play with people from your faction to give you experience boost.
  • World events, where all players can complete a task to obtain a cosmetic item, for example, for their profile picture.

Performance:
In games, my mobile phone usually has a stable 60 fps, occasionally dropping to 57 fps for some attacks. I haven't noticed the phone getting hot.
I should mention, while charging the phone (my phone charges at 120W) and recording the screen to get some screenshots for this post, the game drops to about 45fps due to the simple heat of the phone, which begins to reduce its power for safety reasons.

As for the PlayStation 5, there's no native way to know the exact frame rate, but it works without any issues.

If you want to know the specifications of my phone:
Model: Realme GT6T (model 256/8)
Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3
RAM: 8GB + 4GB Virtual (up to 8GB Virtual can be activated)
Screen: FullHD+ 2780 x 1264p 120 Hz
Battery: 5500 mAh 120W
AnTuTu total score: 1256070

Final reflection:
I hope they keep improving the game, adding features, and seeing how they progress. Bandai Namco usually listens to players, but not always, so we'll have to wait and see how they build this project. Despite not being a big fan of the MOBA games, I hope they handle the Dragon Ball saga well.

Thanks for reading. Have you tried it yet?
