Moon: The New Space Strategy Game... on Hive

Screenshot right after joining.

Moon is a new game built by a team on Hive that caters to different types of players:

  • it is a space strategy game
  • you can build your space empire
  • you can build alliances or annihilate enemies
  • you can farm inactive players (you should read the rules, tough)
  • but you can also play it without taking much of your time, over long-enough periods of time
  • there are various leaderboards for competitive players
  • the game seems to have quite a bit of depth (check out this video by @ecoinstant made right before resetting the public testing universe)
  • it works well on mobile
  • it works for Web 2 players, with a small layer of Web 3

For long time users of Hive (back to the previous chain)... do you remember the St**mNova game? That game was fun and got people excited. Unfortunately, the game economy was broken due to the rewards and usage of multi-accounts in a profitable manner, and it was a one-time thing - when conditions to end the game were met, it wasn't restarted again.

I briefly tried out Moon in the testing phase. I didn't continue because it seemed quite overwhelming at the time (as I said, it has depth), and knowing it would be only a few weeks away until the game will launch I thought I'd better start fresh like everyone else, even if that puts me at the same level of understanding of the game as everybody, more or less.

Moon is a fork of St**mNova from the gameplay perspective (which is based on oGame for those familiar to it), but we don't know much about how rewards will work. What we know is that the PIZZA token will be involved. By depositing PIZZA tokens, one gets Pizzabits in-game. Not sure exactly how those can be used, because anything game-related doesn't need Pizzabits to be developed. But from what I read between the lines from the announcement, part of the PIZZA deposited to get Pizzabits will be used to distribute to players as rewards. One can also get Pizzabits from expeditions, besides deposits.

Unlike St**mNova, Moon will also have seasons (i.e. universes), lasting many months each. When condition for victory are met in one universe, the game is reset, and things start over from scratch. Possibly with different end of season (universe) conditions.

That gives everyone a chance to restart from the same level in the new universe, and new players can join all the time, while keeping the game exciting for them too. If they join during a season but after a while, they can use the remaining season to learn the game, so they can start the new universe with a good routine about the game. If they join at the beginning of a season/universe, they benefit of similar conditions, although, of course, older players already know what to focus on early on and could get a head start, but that advantage can quickly disappear, if we have involved players who like this type of game and have a little time to look around at first.

I hope the game will have as fewer exploits as possible now that it will go out into the wild, because it has the potential to be fun, engaging, and a magnet to Web 2 gamers to Hive, indirectly.

Now... Getting back to building my space empire... 💪 Join if you want to. No referral link, apparently.

I'll have to check it out! I've seen a few mentions here and there... I like the idea that it has some depth.

I wonder what they are doing to attract players from outside the Hive environment? We need more things on Hive that are more like Splinterlands, bringing their own economies to the ecosystem.

Basically, one can play the game without any link to blockchain (a Hive account is optional, they can join using a password). There are a couple of boosts that are payable by Pizzabits, which can be acquired using PIZZA easier than finding them through the game play.

So wait, you can build a huge empire, get the best, and when season ends it's all reset all everyone starts from zero? That's a whales killer 🤣

That's a whales killer 🤣

Maybe... Or... they get the dopamine of kicking everyone's ass all over again. 🤣 And next time, it's likely the others will try to keep such a player or their alliance down from the start, to not have an advantage later in the game.

I think its a nice game, but I feel lost just looking at it. Maybe it seems a bit too complicated without any type of tutorial.

Look at the FAQ menu. Pretty simple, once you understand the interface.

I remember SteemNova, planning for night attacks :-)
I'll try again. Thanks for the shout-out!

Thanks, loved the previous game, I am pretty sure I am going to love this one too. Great to see it come back in this form, perhaps better.

I am a big fan of seeing all of this development. I may not have the time to check them all out. What matters is that there are real developers building things on HIVE. This is a very good sign for the future of the blockchain.

The big work was done by the guys before on the other chain, from my understanding of things. But it's great to see it brought back to life. Great game!

You're welcome! It's fun. Eco mentions some "rewardification" but not sure what it'll be.

Moon looks like a fun space strategy game on Hive. I like that it offers different playstyles and has depth. The seasonal universe approach sounds cool, giving everyone a fresh start. Hope it attracts more Web 2 gamers to Hive.

It will likely be one of the attractions on Hive in the next period.

Space themed things are always cool imo, you might want to include more ingame pictures to give me (us readers) a better understanding of what kinda game it is :)

Look at the video Eco created and which I linked. It's much better than a couple of screenshots.

Just started my own. Looks... Interesting. Reminds me of text based games such as utopia-game.
