Gold III Breakthrough & Brawl Breakdown

What’s Up, Fellow Splinterlands Grinders!

This week, the RNG gods and the arena meta actually felt kinda friendly. After being hardstuck in Silver I for ages like a security guard walking the same old beat, I finally broke through and climbed to Gold III in Modern mode a few days ago.

It sounds pretty basic—just climbing one tier. But for a player who spends every day sweatily theorycrafting lineups and praying the opponent throws their card positioning, it still feels like a major W.

And looks like that win streak carried over into the Brawl arena with my awesome guild, ClaNFT.

As usual, I was trusted to hold down Fray 12 again. I don't know why, but I've basically become the permanent anchor there. Maybe my guildmates think I'm so comfortable in this seat that moving me would just mess with my muscle memory.

For this brawl, I had 5 active matches. Out of those, I only dropped 2. Secured the rest pretty smoothly. On top of that, I got 4 free wins because of opponent no-shows (empty slots). So, final score: 7 wins and 2 losses. Not bad!

That run helped ClaNFT secure 2nd place overall, wrapping up the brawl with 327 points and 109 total wins. Honestly, that's a sweet result considering how sweaty and try-hard the brawl matchmaking has been lately.

The loot we got also padded my SPS wallet nicely:

The guild has won spoils of 52 Crowns in the latest brawl! Also, each fully participating member was awarded 2,600 Merits and players with a spellbook were awarded 26.412 staked SPS.

Thinking about it, SPS price action fluctuates just like a gamer's sanity after losing a match due to a missed clutch attack. But hey, watching that staked number go up always gives you that sweet dopamine hit.

Out of all the matches, there’s one specific battle I want to break down. Not because I completely stomped them, but because I took a pretty “honorable L.” Honestly, sometimes a loss like that teaches you way more than a quick cheese win.

In that match, I tried to run a full Opportunity monster comp. I dropped Isgald Vorst, Deeplurker, and Kulu Mastermind all at once. It felt like bringing three pickpockets to a carnival and hoping they’d coordinate perfectly. To optimize the setup, I threw in Noa the Just to strip the enemy's armor.

I was pretty confident at first. I figured once their armor was shredded, my Opportunity monsters would just feast.

Turns out, I miscalculated.

The opponent brought out an Archon with the Trample ability, which absolutely enabled their melee comp. Their synergy was like a marching band: perfectly timed, hitting hard, and just steamrolling through whatever was in front of them.

One by one, my monsters got wiped. That’s when it hit me: having a good strategy doesn't mean jack if the opponent's team synergy is just flawless. Sometimes in Splinterlands, losing isn't about having a trash lineup. It's just that the opponent managed to get their entire squad running like a well-oiled machine.

What I love about brawls isn't just the rewards, though. There's a sense of camaraderie you can't buy with SPS or Merits. In a guild like ClaNFT, you level up your skills naturally without it feeling like a chore.

IMO, for new players, joining a guild is an absolute must-do. Brawls teach you mechanics you don’t usually pick up in regular ranked ladder:

  • How to properly read complex rulesets.
  • How to optimize team compositions.
  • How to accept the brutal reality that sometimes the enemy monsters are just too OP to reason with.

And another takeaway from this week: climbing the ladder doesn't automatically make matches a breeze. In fact, the higher you go, the more sweaty it gets, and players will punish your micro-mistakes instantly.

What's Next?

For now, I'm going to hoard the Merits I earned. The goal remains the same: grind until I hit 10k Merits so I can bulk-open 5 Gladius Packs at once. The gacha rush of opening multiple packs at once hits different—just like opening holiday cash envelopes when we were kids.

And that’s the recap of my brawl week. It wasn't a perfect run, but it’s definitely keeping the grind mindset alive. GG to everyone!
