Slept Too Much, Yet Not Enough

This was definitely fast coming... I slept quite a bit overnight and into the morning. Actual morning. Since I'm on a night shift, I essentially slept until a little past 6 in my evening (6 a.m. in real time). And I'll be going back to sleep soon lol! Clearly, I'm somewhat sleep deprived.

Unregulated and irregular sleep cycles are very bad for long-term health. Poor sleep and prolonged night shifts are specifically associated with heart disease and depression. Thus, I'm glad that my night shifts are only transient and not something I'll be continuing long-term, even though there are aspects which I like more about day shifts than night shifts.

I will say that when I work night shifts, I actually have a higher chance of seeing sunlight than during day shifts. Sounds strange? I'll explain: if I work a day shift, say 7 am - 7 pm, most of the sunlight is likely to be seen during my work hours, when I'm inside all day, particularly during the winter. If I work from 7 pm - 7 am, on the other hand, on my home, I can see sunlight in the morning.

Thus, maybe the night shift isn't doing as much psychological damage as a day shift. The sleep irregularities, however, are not very good. It's fortunate that I have a vacation coming up, and sometime in March, one more month of night shifts before they're finished practically forever.
