Improving a 2000 year old vending machine / Reblog Lottery DUO Bonus

Back in the days of Egypt Hero of Alexandria was a mathematician and and engineer that made lots of neat inventions, he actually created the first vending machine. it was a mechanical machine that would dispense holy water when a coin was inserted.

A truly ingenious gadget, unfortunately there is not much specification about this invention but I think it is safe to assume that it would have been fairly simple much like the reproduction and digital representations, the coins ended up falling right into the holly water so the design was not the most flushed out.

In the regard to metal verification, I think outside of the coin slot there was no other built in mechanism that would prevent counterfeits from triggering the machine.

But would there be a way to improve the design to make it better at thwarting fakes with the tech available at that time, I think so

So the coin slot is a great start, but it is far from perfect, a coin may be legit but it may have been shaved or parts removed making it weigh less, or if there is a fake that has the same shape it would fit in the slot and trigger the mechanism.

I think with some modifications we can take this design to the next level, so the original triggers when the coin or object that fits into the slot falls onto a trap that opens the spout to release the holy water, well I think we just have to include another mechanism above that one.

So we can start off with having a balancing scale with one arm having the weight of the legit coin and the other arm being empty and placed right under the coin slot.

when a coin is put into the slot it pushes a timing gear and drops on to the balancing scale, as this is happening the timing gear comes around, if the scale is balanced the gear is able to complete it's rotation and trigger the release of the holy water, if it is not balanced (ie the coin is a fake or has been shaved) the locking mechanism will be in the way of the timing gear and make it jump back to it's starting positing as well as diverting the failed sample into a separate section for later manual inspection.

This is all likely to work minus maybe having another mechanism you have to turn for the timing gear as it may require too much force to start the mechanism with just pushing the coin in, there maybe some minor adjustments that are needed but it would make this first vending machine a lot better and it would all be possible with the tool and technology of that time.

Someday soon I may revisit this when AI is better and maybe it can help me make a cool animation with my improvements,
This is the kind of stuff I do and the funny part is that I have Aphantasia a disorder where I am unable imagine images with my minds eye, sometimes I think maybe that's for the best I am a threat as it is.

I got more cool inventions and ideas but unlike this one they have actual economic potential so I can't really get into them for the sake of the intellectual property, luckily this one has non so it is a fun exercise that I can share with you all.
