Happy Friday everyone! Today I felt like putting together a post for the Nineties Friday community. It's an event where you can share just about anything from the 1990's, your imagination is the limit. I know that some people absolutely hated the 90's, and I'll be the first to admit that the eighties were a lot more fun culture wise. But I loved my years of the 1990's, although most of them were living outside the U.S. That may well be why I enjoyed them so much!
To kick off this Nineties Friday I chose to go with a classic movie "Space Jam" starring Michael Jordon, Bill Murray, Wayne Knight, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck.... All all star cast! It's a film well worth seeing as Jordon was at the height of has fame with the Chicago Bulls. Whether or not you like the Bulls, Jordan was an amazing player to watch! Jordan gets pulled into the toon world to help win a basketball game. It's a fun movie. Don't confuse it with the new version they made recently (with LeBron James), because it sucked...
First up, something about the cool coin advertised in the banner. I don't like colorized coins much, but this one is kind of fun. I would prefer a version without color but they didn't make one. It was a quick sellout with only 1,996 made (for the year 1996), but it does commemorate 25 years since the film first debuted.
After the success of their first Space Jam coin, Niue decided to make a new one the following year. It kind of reminded me of a quote from the movie "Spaceballs" by Mel Brooks. His character joked "God willing we'll all be back for Spaceballs 2: The Search for more Money". This coin feels just like that, Niue's search for more money by releasing a coin a year later after the anniversary that is just kind of ugly (in my opinion.) It has yet to sell out three years later.
And just an FYI for those Spaceballs fans out there, Spaceballs 2 has been greenlit and apparently ready to go into production. I hope they can convince Rick Moranis to come out of retirement to reprise his role of Lord Dark Helmet!
Now onto a trailer of the original Michael Jordan version of the film. I always liked this move, even if you weren't a fan of the Chicago Bulls, Jordan is a likeable guy and he made the movie work!
After watching the trailer of Space Jam it was hard to miss the fact that Wayne Knight was in the movie. You might remember him from Jurassic Park, or more so from his character Newman on Seinfeld. I thought it would be fun to share some funny moments with Knight in his years on Seinfeld. And at the end I just couldn't leave out a clip of the Soup Nazi.
Seinfeld was was of the best sitcoms ever made, and remains popular to this day. I occasionally watch an episode on Netflix, I do have my favorites though. Here we go with some Newman clips and a little Soup Nazi:
And now for some music from the 1990's!

Formed in Bakersfield, California in 1993, Korn went on to become the sound of nu-metal music when they released their self titled album in 1994. The lead song "Blind" became a game changer in the heavy metal scene and influenced many bands that have followed until this day. This is a great metal tune: "Blind"!

This legendary band changed the world of rock music forever with the release of their album
"Nevermind". They did release one album earlier which is a good listen if you feel like deep diving into Nirvana. But this song was the one that changed it all, "Smells Like Teen Spirit":
Because I spent most of my 1990's outside the US in countries that really only spoke Spanish, I like to throw in one or two songs from the era in Spanish!

Pandora is a Mexican band formed in 1985 by a pair of sisters and their cousin. It was sort of the Latin world version of Bananarama. They had success throughout the the late eighties and into the early nineties. One song I recall hearing on the radio a lot in the early 90's was the song "Popurri", a blend of three songs written by Latin American legendary singer/ song writer Juan Gabriel. They did a great job, have a listen:
That will wrap un this week's #ninetiesfriday , I hope you enjoyed some or all of the material I found to share to day. I don't think I'll be picking up either of the coins I shared at the beginning, I think the first has already become expensive and the second is just plain ugly. As I said, I prefer coins that are not colored as a general rule. Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below, and thanks for taking the time to stop by and check it out. Thank you so much for all of your support, and have a great weekend everyone!

Believe it or not, I have never seen Space Jam. I was never much of a Jordan fan. Probably because I am a Pistons fan. Then that documentary came out a while ago and he just comes across as a jerk. However a very talented jerk. Seinfeld on the other hand I can probably quote at least one or two lines from every episode. Did you know if you have Alexa it has a Seinfeld trivia built in? I was playing it at my brother in laws the other day. I don't really do that listening device stuff.... :)
I didn't see the documentary, too bad he's a jerk. Money and fame can do that a person... Seinfeld was really funny, and I wouldn't use a listening device either, unless you want them to listen to everything that goes on in your home to market more stuff to you.
That's exactly why we don't have one!

You have created a Precious Gem!
I saw that movie because I rented it at Blockbuster, when that still existed here in Venezuela, as for the color of the coins you are right and I share your taste, however, I can make an exception with this coin that is very well done with that image of the movie.
In another order I never saw the Seinfeld series, as for Korn, their music is brutal, not many tolerate it, when I listen to it at home I have to put it at a very low volume, family stuff LOL, Nirvana is another level, me and my daughters like to listen to Nirvana a lot.

Today's music was a serious blend from heavy metal, to rock, to Mexican pop music! lol

The soup Nazi made me laugh one of my favorite characters on Seinfeld!!🤣
Just don't ask for anything special Lol!!😇🤣
The Soup Nazi was hilarious! I also loved Newman, just how he and Jerry always disliked each other. I think my favorite scene is when his mail truck catches fire thanks to Elaine and Kramer!
Now I’m going to have to watch some more Seinfeld!🤣😊👍
I remember listening to these 90s songs during school time.
I was a rocker but even I had that album!

Don’t forget this classic! Ya missed one 🙂
WoW, it's amazing to have to accept that it's been 35 years since the 90's. I was born in the 2000's, so I grew up watching movies like “Space Jam” and listening to music from that era.
I know the 80's is the golden age of POP culture, but I think the 90's was a significant decade for many as it was a formative period for many industries.
