Gold has been going insane pricewise lately, as has silver. Currently it's over $5,000 per Troy ounce. It's no wonder with all of the world instability, and things only look to increase in value even more. Today I found a coin I would love to own to own from Niue. Why? Because it is an animal coin which are my favorites. This has the Tasmanian tiger featured, which was a very cool animal prior to it's extinction. I still hold out hope it can be resurrected.
At any rate, this is a cool coin from the island nation of Niue. I've always loved the Tasmanian tiger:

This coin is one Troy ounce of pure gold, and beautiful except for the obverse. King Charles kind of ruins the coin. But since they are a British territory the monarch appears all too often. Just my opinion, even though I'm a distant relative of his. Only fifty will be minted, so it will become a very valuable coin in the future.

The Tasmian tiger is sadly extinct. It was considered to be a threat to livestock and hunted into extinction. The irony is that they would only feed on small to medium sized prey, so in all reality they were killed off for no good reason whatsoever. The same happened here in the United States with the wolf and the jaguar, fortunately the wolf has been reintroduced. However, the jaguar is still absent from it's natural environment in the southern US.
There have been projects to bring the species back to life, and the DNA has been completely sequenced. However, it is very hard to bring back a species, because the population would be small. That would mean recessive genes would be manifested in young offspring. Sadly, there is little chance of these animals ever being recovered, even with human innovations.

That will do it for today, I hope you enjoyed the gold coin. I only wish I could buy one. Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below. And thank you for all of you support, it's greatly appreciated. Have a great day everyone!

I would need an Aussie accent and much deeper pockets to stack this mate.
!PIMP
Much, much deeper pockets for me too, but it's likely to increase in value with only 50 minted!

Only 50 minted?……..
This will definitely be sought after, I’m sure at a very high premium!😇
With that small a mintage they're sure to go up in price, I just can't afford one right now! lol
I am right there with you my friend...... I am sure the premium is high for such a small mintage!🙄
I watched a show about the Tasmanian Tiger. It was a while ago. There was a scientist who was researching whether some might still exist. The show also talked about bringing them back using DNA. It was an interesting show.
I saw that too, whether or not they are still out there in isolated pockets, who knows. I hope so, otherwise eventually they might resurrect the species!
Why do they put a monetary value on it when it is clearly worth a lot more than that. Is it just so they can call it a coin?
Pretty much so it's a coin. Otherwise it's just a round and probably wouldn't carry as much premium. They did a nice job on this one though, the Tasmanian tiger looks great!
It does look good. I would think the limited mint quantity would give it enough of a premium, but who knows!
Beautiful coin.
Ah, I'm ok with Charles. He had a rough childhood and then was later warped by his weird family. Not entirely his fault he because such an odd guy. How old is he? Somewhere in his 70s? I can't imagine he'll last too much longer, so the coins with him might take on an extra bit of collectability later.
Growing up in that family it would hard not to be messed up. They are a weird bunch! He won't be around much longer and has already been through a bought of cancer. So his coins may become valuable down the road!

Yay!!! I hope gold goes higher and remains there!!!
For the others who don't know, Nuie doesn't own minting facilities... their silver and gold coins are produced by the New Zealand Mint, Czech Mint, Sunshine Minting, and Le Grand Mint. It is the New Zealand mint that produces the Disney Mickey series, which I buy.
