Ever have one of those days when you're just feeling old? I get one of those from time to time, it's amazing how I don't have the energy I used to possess back when I was in my twenties! Today has been one of those days, I even got a very slow start trying to get my brain in gear along with the rest of my body. Coffee is a wonderful thing! I can turn one of those meh mornings into a very tolerable one!
Around my home I really don't keep much in the way of precious metals. Most are stored securely at other locations for security and insurance reasons. Plus, if there were a robbery the thieves would be very sad to find they walk away with next to nothing of value! I do keep some small or really worn silver around, mainly because it's not valuable and it's fun to look at from time to time. One of these pieces is a Morgan silver dollar that I picked up many long years ago. It came as part of a package deal as I really wasn't interested in this one in particular. But over time, I've come to appreciate it's age and the wear and tear that it has suffered over the last 136 years.
The world was a very different place in 1890, steel locomotives were still the main mode of travel around most countries having replaced the horse and carriage. However, I recall my grandmother saying that her mother still used a horse and cart when my grandmother was young which has to be around 1920. The horse wasn't phased out right away! Personally I kind enjoy having a car to get from point A to point B, riding a horse long distances can be very uncomfortable!
But when I feel old, I just look at a coin like this one and it cheers me up. I'm a lot younger with less mileage, so I don't have that much to complain about! We can't stop the world from spinning, but we can make the most of every day we have on this fine planet of ours. In a few years living on the moon or Mars may even become a choice, one I will be a passing on for sure! How about you? Will you be moon or Mars bound?

From numista.com

This coin was minted in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. You can tell by the lack of a mint mark where I have circled above. Any other mint would have carried a mark. It was produced along with about 16.8 million others, so it's not a rare coin by any means. But since that time it has passed through many hands, purses, pockets, and been spent on just about anything your can imagine. If only coins could talk! The silver contained in the coin is about 0.773 Troy ounces which is worth about $55.82 at the time of writing. The coin itself might sell for $65 or a bit more depending on the day, since it's so worn there isn't much numismatic value, sadly.
It's a coin I won't be parting with though, it's one of the few I don't mind actually holding in my hand knowing I won't be damaging it. It's fun to have something so old and with so much history you can actually hold in your hand! If you haven't ever tried it, I highly recommend it!

That will wrap things up for this Thursday, and I hope you enjoyed the coin. I also hope that I'm not the only one out there who feels "old" at times! Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below, and thank you so much for all of your support! Have a great day everyone!

You are not the only one who feels it brother. My body is aging hard. My mind, meh. It still thinks I am thirty. Which I will take for sure. But soetimes the mind likes to plau tricks on the bod. Not fun. Anyway. I am with you on holding an old coin in your hand. It feels good.
Cars are nice, but modern plumbing is the real kicker for me :) Plus longer life expectancy. I'm one of those guys that would have ended up face down in the middle of main street!
