As I'm waking these neighborhoods, sometimes I come across a coin. This time it was a penny, but it didn't have the distinctive copper color. Why does it look like this?

It's a very worn, normal plain-old 1996 penny. I think perhaps the copper has worn off the outer layer and revealed the zinc interior. Perhaps.

I never realized how raised the "six" in 1996 is, it almost looks out of place. It's a pretty worn penny, but fun to inspect close up to see all of it's wear and tear!
