The Lost Ticket…

He’d been saving all year for the summer concert only to lose the tickets an hour before the gates opened.

Josh stared as people made their way into the Tafawa Balewa square, their tickets in their hands and their partners alongside. Excitedly, they got their seats, ready to watch one of the country’s biggest Artists, Davido, perform.

Josh didn’t know how to react to everything happening at that moment. He felt like laughing, crying, and yelling at the same time, but he couldn’t bring himself to make any sound.

He stood close to one of the pillars of the stadium, hands akimbo, he shook his head in utter disbelief and sighed.

“I had it in my pocket! I had it” he yelled at no one in particular.

Finally realizing it was game over and he wouldn’t be attending the concert, he yelled, stomped his feet, and let out a loud scream.

Two of the bouncers who had heard the sound of Josh’s scream made their way towards him.

“Is there a problem mate?” One of the bouncers asked.

“Yes there is,” Josh said sadly.

“You good man? The second bouncer asked.

“No, I am not!” Josh growled.

“Okay, calm down, take a deep breath,” the first bouncer said concerned laced in his voice.

Watching as Josh visibly calmed down made the second bouncer press further.

“Now can you tell us what the problem is?” The second bouncer asked.

“I can’t find my ticket, it was stolen on my way here. I had it, I swear, I had it right in my pocket, but someone stole it, someone….”

“Sorry for your ordeal bro, but no ticket no entry,” the second bouncer said in a matter of finality. From his tone, you could guess that he hears such stories every single time in his line of work.

“I’m so sorry man”, the first bouncer said.

Josh’s fear was confirmed. There was nothing anyone could do, he didn’t have a ticket and no ticket meant no entry.

Taking a deep breath and lost for words, Josh left the venue.
Hurt and helpless, he jumped on the first bus he saw, not bothering to ask about the destination of the bus.

Josh had been saving all year for the summer concert. He was a die-hard fan of Davido and considered himself Davido’s mentee too. He had longed for such a day to come, but losing his ticket an hour before the concert sucked more than anything.

Putting his phone on DND, he rested his head on the bus chair, hoping he would find solace in the long ride home.

Everything would be fine, he said to himself as he closed his eyes.

Losing a ticket like that after all the hype and saving up? That pain is real. I hope Josh gets another chance someday. Life can be so unpredictable.

Life is truly unpredictable.

I hope Josh gets another chance someday.

This is not the end of the road for him, of course he’d get multiple chances in the future.
