[Writing Contest] Finish the Tale

A letter arrived yesterday. It was written five years ago. The paper type and color was obvious; it wasn't written at that time. Dele hit off the envelope to clear the splashes of dust, and just when he proceeded to open it, he noticed a red ribbon tied at the corner of the envelope in which the letter was stuck in. He pulled up the ribbon and held it firmly toward his chest. He didn't need to open the letter to know from whom it came from. "Titi!, Oh Titi!" He Mumbled under his breath as he sob softly. He thought he had lost her. It's been five years since she left without notice.

Amidst the sob he quickly opened the letter, a flood of questions rushing through his mind. Why has the letter stayed this long?, why did she decide to write to him only after she had left?, where is their child?, and where is she?. He fixed his gaze on the content of the letter still troubled by the questions. Her sweet handwriting never changed, it was one of the things he first loved about her in high school, sometimes he'd give her his book so she could help him copy notes. He allowed his eyes to scan through every line of words.

My fullmoon Dele, he started, A name only Titi calls him, he needed no other proof to know it was actually her who had written the letter herself.

I have found another man I am happy with now, one who cherishes me and who will be a good father to Femi. I didn't want our son to grow up in a toxic environment. Sorry, I had to make this difficult choice. Don't bother looking for me, moreover, I was never legally your wife

Goodbye Femi

His hands shook weakly as he held the letter. Beside him were bottles of whiskey which were his companion from days past. Regret written all over his face, if only he had been a good man to her, he wouldn't be sitting alone among the companies of bottles.
