The Death Team I Trusted With 43 Mana in Splinterlands

Hello people of Splinterlands! It's @zoe01 again and today I would like to share with you another Modern Ranked battle. This time I decided to use my favourite Death summoner Thalgrimore and the battle had a pretty good 43 mana cap.

I was happy when I saw the mana cap because it gave me enough space to build a proper lineup. But there was also a ruleset that made my card choices a little different than usual.

Battle Rules

Mode: Modern Ranked
Mana Cap: 43
Ruleset: Rise of the Commons
Modifier: None
Available: Fire, Water, Earth, Life, Death and Dragon

The 43 mana was definitely enough for me to make a good sized lineup.

But the Rise of the Commons ruleset was the thing I had to pay attention to the most. Under this ruleset I could only summon rare and common units.

So I had to look through my cards and decide which ones could work together.

Choosing My Team

I already had my summoner in mind before I started building the team. I wanted to use Thalgrimore because Death is still my favourite element and I always enjoy playing with it.

With 43 mana I didn't have to make a tiny lineup like some of my low mana battles. This time I could place several monsters and make a proper formation.

My Team

Summoner: Thalgrimore

Position 1: Nim Guard Captain

Position 2: Spellmonger

Position 3: Vengeful Monk

Position 4: Beluroc Aegis

Position 5: Black Widow

That's the lineup I decided to use for this battle. 😂

I placed Nim Guard Captain in the first position because I wanted it to be my main frontline. It had to take the attacks coming towards my team while the other monsters could do their part from behind.

In the second position I placed Spellmonger. I wanted it close enough to the frontline to keep contributing while still having Nim Guard Captain in front of it.

For the third position I picked Vengeful Monk. One thing I liked about Vengeful Monk was its Opportunity ability. It targets the enemy unit with the least health so it can attack different targets instead of always hitting the frontline.

Behind Vengeful Monk I placed Beluroc Aegis in the fourth position.

And finally Black Widow went into the fifth position to stay at the back of my lineup.

I thought this was a pretty balanced formation for the mana cap. I had my frontline and then several monsters behind it so I was hoping they could keep dealing damage while Nim Guard Captain was holding things together.

Battle Highlights

My opponent was DREHY who had no guild and was playing with SCHOLAR: ARCHMAGE.APP.

When I saw the opponent's lineup I started looking at the cards more carefully because there were some interesting abilities involved in this battle.

The battle also had an Ambush Round which made things a little more interesting.

One of the cards I noticed was Nim Guard Captain on the opponent's side too. So both of us had decided to use it in our teams hehe.

I also noticed that one of the opponent's monsters had Void. This ability reduces the damage from magic attacks so it can be annoying when you are relying on magic damage.

Another card had Thorns which returns physical damage to a monster when it gets hit by a melee attack.

So I knew I couldn't just blindly attack everything with melee monsters.

As the battle started my main focus was on the frontline.

Nim Guard Captain was in the first position and I wanted it to stay there for as long as possible. Since I had several monsters behind it I needed my frontline to survive so the rest of the team could keep attacking.

Vengeful Monk was also doing its part from the third position.

I always find Opportunity monsters interesting because you don't always know exactly which enemy they are going to target. They will go after the enemy with the least health so sometimes they can finish off a monster that you weren't expecting.

Behind it Beluroc Aegis and Black Widow were still in their positions.

So, the battle ended in a short time and I got the result I was expecting.

VICTORY! 🎉

My Thalgrimore lineup managed to take the win.

I was happy with this one because I had a pretty full lineup and the cards were able to work together without me having to make the battle too complicated.

Victory Rewards

Winning the battle gave me:

Victory in Modern Ranked

+20 Rating

Bronze II Progress

Final Rating: 420

After the victory my rating went up to 420.

I also earned +52 from the battle.

Another +20 Rating is always nice because I am slowly trying to climb through the ranks.

And there was another little reward waiting for me too.

I received +500 Sparks from my daily streak.

I really like getting Sparks because I have been saving them for the Spark Shop. So seeing another 500 Sparks added was pretty satisfying. 😄

It's always nice when one battle gives me some progress in different places at the same time.

Another win and another little bit of progress hehe.

Final Thoughts

Okay so this battle was a pretty fun one.

The 43 mana cap gave me enough space to build a proper lineup and the Rise of the Commons ruleset made me think a little more about which cards I wanted to use.

I went with my favourite Death summoner Thalgrimore and built the team around Nim Guard Captain, Spellmonger, Vengeful Monk, Beluroc Aegis and Black Widow.

I especially liked having Vengeful Monk in the middle because its Opportunity ability can be useful when there are low-health monsters on the other side.

In the end my team managed to take the victory and I got another +20 Rating.

My rating is now 420 in Bronze II and slowly I am trying to move higher. 😄

Sometimes it's not about making some crazy strategy. Just putting together cards that can support each other can work too.

Do you use Thalgrimore in your Death battles? Which card do you like using under the Rise of the Commons ruleset? I'd love to hear your strategies in the comments!
