Adapting to Modern: Learning Integrating Foundation Cards Into Your Battles Part 8

Prelude
Greeting to all, we are coming to a close of 2025, wishing everyone an advanced Happy New Year and welcome back to another new post on Adapting to Modern. With the launch of the foundation card set, it is evident that these cards will somehow become part of the available cards that we can play during normal ranked battle and truly I use them in my ranked battles. If you follow what I share on my weekly Splinterlands posts on match sharing, many a times you will see these foundation cards appearing in my lineup.

For me, these cards are important because they give newcomers a decent push to strengthen and expand their collection until they have sufficient DEC/SPS or other methods of capital injection to purchase main set packs or buy off the market for the cards that can truly elevate their lineup in ranked battles. In this series, I will be deep diving into various foundation cards that we can obtain from playing frontier matches and opening foundation packs.

Foundation Set Cards

For the deep dive and analysis, I will be discussing about the growth of the cards and if they are able to synergize with modern cards to aid you in your ranked battles. This time round, assessment and recommendation will be within the card's own paragraph than having a segment on their own, so take note in the structural change in the post. Let's begin today's sharing.

Asel Alagosdil

Let's begin looking at the foundation card, Asel Alagosdil. It is not easy to spell this card as well. But for me, this is one important card especially for frontier. One interesting thing is that this is an elf, which can synergize with the elves bloodline as a good meat shield because of the divine shield. The biggest pity that this card have is the untrainable which makes it hard for it to capitalize the benefit of elves bloodline's execute ability.

Growth potential for this card is quite decent with armour and health able to scale across all 3 levels. Could have been an even greater card if not for the untrainable. The divine shield had save me so many times. And because it is just 4 mana, it is a good option for little league.

In terms of rating for this card, based on a score of 5, it will get about 3.5. I am not being bias but this card is a very versatile card that can be used. Do not underestimate the divine shield because it can absorb one big blow before the health and armour do their work to fend off more damage. If only this card is able to be weapon trained, the rating of this card will be even higher. One of the better cards in foundation set.

Mystic Scaleweaver

Now we look at another card from Water splinter, Mystic Scaleweaver. Decent health and it also has a nice magic attack. On top of that, there is slow at base level. Personally, this is one of the best card for foundation set. And if you peek into the market, this card is about 8-10x more expensive than any other foundation card. And you know this is one crazy card that will appear very often in modern ranked battles. I myself love to use it as well. One thing to note is that this card has to be earned from daily rewards/chest because it is not given within campaign.

In terms of growth for this card, the most important growth it gets is really that one extra magic attack. This alone is going to make a difference, especially the archon that can boost magic attack by 1. And this means, we can hit for 4 magic attack on every strike which is crazily awesome!

In terms of rating for this card, it will take a rating of 3.8 out of 5. For a foundation card, this card is really decent though the mana really is a little too high for my liking but this card resembles previous Nerissa Tridawn that can hit 3 damage. The slow is really good because you will be able to hit first before your opponent. All in all, awesome card and able to turn matches in your favour.

Wrap Up
Though some of the foundation cards need a little more mana, but when they come into the matches, they help to fill mana gaps in our collection that we are lacking or when there is just this odd mana or two that you cannot field anything. Make full use of them, synergize them with your other cards from the main sets or reward cards, make them viable and win matches so as to earn more glint as we continue building up our collection. Hopefully this series of post will help new players learn more about these foundation cards and improve their gameplay in ranked battles as they grow and affirm the footing on Splinterlands.
