Prelude
Greeting to all, we are closing into Christmas as today is Christmas eve, wishing everyone a blessed Christmas and welcome back to another new post on Adapting to Modern. With the launch of the foundation card set, it is evident that these cards will somehow become part of the available cards that we can play during normal ranked battle and truly I use them in my ranked battles. If you follow what I share on my weekly Splinterlands posts, many of these foundation cards even found their way into my rank battles lineup which tells us how good they can be and be comparable to normal cards from the expansion sets.
For me, these cards are important because they give newcomers a decent push to strengthen and expand their collection until they have sufficient DEC/SPS or other methods of capital injection to purchase main set packs or buy off the market for the cards that can truly elevate their lineup in ranked battles. In this series, I will be deep diving into various foundation cards that we can obtain from playing frontier matches and opening foundation packs.
Foundation Set Cards
For the deep dive and analysis, I will be discussing about the growth of the cards and if they are able to synergize with modern cards to aid you in your ranked battles. This time round, assessment and recommendation will be within the card's own paragraph than having a segment on their own, so take note in the structural change in the post. Let's begin today's sharing.
Frostguard Warrior

Let's begin looking at the foundation card, Frostguard Warrior. This is an interesting card which will integrate with death splinter Conclave Arcana archon that will give painforge for being a gnome and close range by default. This is really good for a range card, allowing it to strike at position one. And this is something where we see that this card will synergize with main cards. It also has snipe which I think is rather decent. However, if not able to play with synergy to the death archon due to water not available, then it is not as good.
Growth potential for this card is not too bad with armour and health being acted on by each level and at the final level also saw the increase speed as well. However, it is also a pity that there is no growth in attack even at max level considering that it is 8 mana cost where there will be other cards that will do better with 8 mana.
In terms of rating for this card, based on a score of 5, it will get about 2.7. A rather decent card with only the high mana cost being a big problem. Otherwise, when we consider that it has potential synergy with new Conclave Arcana archon is a good thing. One thing to note is that there are definitely other standard set cards or reward cards that are of better stats than this. So when you obtain those, this will go down the pecking order.
Saltwater Mage

Now we look at another card from Water splinter, Saltwater Mage. 8 mana magic attacker that can be natively boosted by foundation water archon to become 3 damage. And this can be a crazy 3 attack card that hits from the rear because it has sneak. This is something crazy because it can just wreck your opponent lineup with ease all the from the rear where the least expected it.
In terms of growth for this card, not much growth in terms of stats other than just the health portion. Personally, even without growth, this card is crazy already because of the sneak that it carries. So if there is even more magic attack gain, this card will probably be a legendary card.
In terms of rating for this card, it will take a rating of 3.5 out of 5. I love this card and it has always been in my lineup even in rank battles whenever I have enough mana to field it. The sneak magic is just such a nice combination to have because most people don't guard against it and just load up armour at the rear. So this card will be a surprise to them where we will clear them up from the rear. A nice card to have and definitely do well in normal ranked matches as well.
Wrap Up
Though some of the foundation cards need a little more mana, but when they come into the matches, they help to fill mana gaps in our collection that we are lacking or when there is just this odd mana or two that you cannot field anything. Make full use of them, synergize them with your other cards, make them viable and win matches so as to earn more glint as we continue building up our collection. Hopefully this series of post will help new players learn more about these cards and improve their gameplay in ranked battles.
Let's continue to grow and find path in modern ranked battles as we journey on playing Splinterlands.
