Prelude
Greeting to all, how are you this lovely mid week and welcome back to another new post on Adapting to Modern. I already had many encounters with cards from escalation and those cards really starting to gain some traction and definitely doing changes to the meta. But that is for another day. We will continue looking into the foundation cards as these cards will somehow become part of the available cards that we can play during normal ranked battle and truly I use them in my ranked battles. Recently I have tried to open more daily packs but those cards that I really needed to max out my collection were just so elusive and hiding away from me. Right now, cards that remain are the epic and legendary cards which are hard to get.
For me, these foundations cards are important because they give newcomers a decent push to strengthen and expand their collection until they have sufficient DEC/SPS or through other methods of capital injection to purchase main set packs or buy cards off the market that can truly elevate their lineup in ranked battles. In this series, I will be deep diving into various foundation cards that we can obtain from playing frontier matches and opening foundation packs.
Foundation Set Cards
For the deep dive and analysis, I will be discussing about the growth of the cards and if they are able to synergize with modern cards to aid you in your ranked battles. This time round, assessment and recommendation will be within the card's own paragraph than having a segment on their own, so take note in the structural change in the post. Let's begin today's sharing.
Black Widow

Let's begin looking at the foundation card, Black Widow. This card while look a little expensive in mana cost is still a very good card because of the poison it gets at max level. This poison actually makes the difference for this card because those big tanks that typically just endure on will hate to see this card against it because the poison will just wreck away those cards and help you reach beyond the tanks much more easily. I like it that it also has some armour and will allow it to sustain a little more during earthquake and a decent amount of health.
In terms of growth for this card, majority of the growth in the early stage revolves around armour, speed and health. And finally at max level, poison is granted which makes this card really crazy and tough to face.
In terms of rating for this card, based on a score of 5, it will get about 3/5. This card shines really well only at max level, The poison is really what set this card apart, need to know when to put this card in the lineup and when not to. When knowing how to utilize this card ability to your strengths, it will help you win many games.
Savage Butcher

Now let's look at a card from death splinter, Savage Butcher. For me this card is considered a utility card because of the reach ability. Otherwise, this card will be worse than Spinetine Fiend that had no other abilities. The attack for this card is a capped at 1 which is a bummer, if it can be at 2, that would have been much better. Otherwise, this card is effective to assist the tank and claw down opponent tank.
In terms of growth for this card, it is relatively flat with only health seeing an increase and the ability of reach available at the mid way point. Not fantastic against what I hoped for.
In terms of rating for this card, it will take a rating of 2 out of 5. If not due to the lack of cards with reach in general, I would have given this card an even lower rating. A utility card for specific purpose, otherwise, hard to make it to the lineup.
Wrap Up
Though most of the foundation cards need a little more mana that cards from the main sets, when they come into the matches, they help to fill mana gaps in our collection that we are lacking or when there is just this odd mana or two that you cannot field anything. Be sure to make full use of them, synergize them with your other cards from the main sets or reward cards, make them viable and win matches so as to earn more glint as we continue building up our collection. Do also take note of the bloodline to see how you are able to get them some boost from their fellow bloodline cards as well. Hopefully this series of post will help new players learn more about these foundation cards and improve their gameplay in ranked battles as they grow and affirm the footing on Splinterlands.
Let's continue to grow and find path in modern ranked battles as we journey on playing Splinterlands.
