Adapting to Modern: Learning Integrating Foundation Cards Into Your Battles Part 17

Prelude
Greeting to all, how are you this lovely midweek and welcome back to another new post on Adapting to Modern. I already had many encounters with cards from escalation and those cards really starting to gain some traction and definitely doing changes to the meta. But that is for another day. We will continue looking into the foundation cards as these cards will somehow become part of the available cards that we can play during normal ranked battle and truly I use them in my ranked battles. There are some foundation cards that are so elusive till date for me and I hope to obtain them soon namely Saltwater Mage and Mystic Scaleweaver.

For me, these foundations cards are important because they give newcomers a decent push to strengthen and expand their collection until they have sufficient DEC/SPS or through other methods of capital injection to purchase main set packs or buy cards off the market that can truly elevate their lineup in ranked battles. In this series, I will be deep diving into various foundation cards that we can obtain from playing frontier matches and opening foundation packs.

Foundation Set Cards

For the deep dive and analysis, I will be discussing about the growth of the cards and if they are able to synergize with modern cards to aid you in your ranked battles. This time round, assessment and recommendation will be within the card's own paragraph than having a segment on their own, so take note in the structural change in the post. Let's begin today's sharing.

Celestial Guardian

Let's begin looking at the foundation card, Celestial Guardian. This is one of 2 of the foundation that comes with flying. There is another one for death splinter which also has flying but only when levelled up while Celestial Guardian already come with it at level 1. Which goes to say, this card is the card for earthquake for frontier league matches. And another thing this is great is that at level 1, it already comes with 2 magic attack. Very decent card, but just one complain, the mana requirement is high so if you have limited mana, you might have to go with a couple of smaller mana cards than to use this card. Was hoping for more abilities but unfortunately only flying.

In terms of growth for this card, the main stat that got scaled will be health and speed, the health growth is quite good but for 8 mana, still too big a price to pay. Quite standard scaling for this card.

In terms of rating for this card, based on a score of 5, it will get about 3/5. Flying is a very good ability, good for earthquake and also improves dodging capabilities. The only pity for this card is the low health. Otherwise, it would have deserved a much better score.

Arcane Curator

Now let's look at a card from death splinter, Arcane Curator. Another 4 mana card without attack and cannot be trained. But this card comes with backfire, with a decent speed, this card can actually return some favour to your attacker. Backfire is like a higher level of thorns but only triggers if opponent missed the attack. So between this and the thorns card, both will be utility.

In terms of growth for this card, we do see increase in speed and health. Speed of the card peaks at 5 which is already rather high and will handle well against melee but will just get destroyed when facing magic attackers.

In terms of rating for this card, it will take a rating of 2.8 out of 5. This card is a utility card, good for some match but not for every match. In matches that you face slow opponents, this card is a beast but when the purple magic clouds smashes it, it goes down without resistance.

Wrap Up
Though most of the foundation cards need a little more mana that cards from the main sets, when they come into the matches, they help to fill mana gaps in our collection that we are lacking or when there is just this odd mana or two that you cannot field anything. Be sure to make full use of them, synergize them with your other cards from the main sets or reward cards, make them viable and win matches so as to earn more glint as we continue building up our collection. Do also take note of the bloodline to see how you are able to get them some boost from their fellow bloodline cards as well. Hopefully this series of post will help new players learn more about these foundation cards and improve their gameplay in ranked battles as they grow and affirm the footing on Splinterlands.

Let's continue to grow and find path in modern ranked battles as we journey on playing Splinterlands.
