Adapting to Modern: Learning Integrating Foundation Cards Into Your Battles Part 14

Prelude
Greeting to all, how are you this lovely midweek, hope you are doing really fine and welcome back to another new post on Adapting to Modern and we are coming into the 13th post for the foundation cards. With the launch of the foundation card set, it is evident that these cards will somehow become part of the available cards that we can play during normal ranked battle and truly I use them in my ranked battles. Recently, with some luck, I've obtained another frontier jackpot card. It is really rare to get one but the moment we get one in our hands, the feeling is awesome. Foundation cards while could look a little more costly to play due to bigger mana cost, there are some that can do well in modern gameplay too and help us climb the ladder.

For me, these foundations cards are important because they give newcomers a decent push to strengthen and expand their collection until they have sufficient DEC/SPS or through other methods of capital injection to purchase main set packs or buy cards off the market that can truly elevate their lineup in ranked battles. In this series, I will be deep diving into various foundation cards that we can obtain from playing frontier matches and opening foundation packs.

Foundation Set Cards

For the deep dive and analysis, I will be discussing about the growth of the cards and if they are able to synergize with modern cards to aid you in your ranked battles. This time round, assessment and recommendation will be within the card's own paragraph than having a segment on their own, so take note in the structural change in the post. Let's begin today's sharing.

Codex Sage

Let's begin looking at the foundation card, Codex Sage. I have to be very honest here. This is one card that I rarely use when battling my frontier battles. Somehow whenever I play life splinter, my goal will always be loading up all the melee attackers or the flying card to escape from the clutches of earthquake but never have I really reserve a place for this because when I need a non attacker, the card with thorns someone came in much more handy that this. So to really talk about this card, it will be more theoretical rather than based on what I have been through. I guess when we know it is going to be heavy for magic, this is the card that we can look for and the life splinter foundation archon also gives additional 1 more armour, making void aromour even more impressive.

In terms of growth for this card, scaling on speed, health armour occurs with void armour only available at level 3 onwards. I think minimally need to use this only level 3 onwards otherwise, it is just a card that cannot weapon train and has no other abilities etc.

In terms of rating for this card, based on a score of 5, it will get about 1.8/5. Apologies, I had to give a poor rating for this because when it comes to selection, this card is close to non existent, there will be other cards that will be picked ahead of it somehow. It might have its own utility but at this juncture, I find it hard to integrate into a lineup unless using a a meat shield.

Hungry Ulund

Now let's look at a card from life splinter, Hungry Ulund. And I like it that it is an Ulund which means there is already a path forward for integration with Ulund bloodline which has a bloodline archon in Conclave Arcana and also from life splinter. I think this card is great because even at level 1, it is already hitting for 2 damage. Though a little squishy at level 1, it eventually bulks up, gains some speed and armour along the way. If played with bloodline archon, it can even gain shield to further enhance its survivability.

The growth for this card slowly increases the armour first and subsequently speed then finally health. Not as beefy as other Ulund but this card gives a good alternative on what to select and use against opponent when there is thorns matchup or when we need to field all the range attackers. I like the nice scaling in stats. Just unfortunate no further increase in attack.

In terms of rating for this card, it will take a rating of 2.8 out of 5. A good utility card especially being able to integrate with Ulund bloodline. If it was 4 mana, this card would be even better since it will qualify for little league. Otherwise, this is a decent card and I have used it a couple of times in modern matchup and it did rather well there.

Wrap Up
Though most of the foundation cards need a little more mana that cards from the main sets, when they come into the matches, they help to fill mana gaps in our collection that we are lacking or when there is just this odd mana or two that you cannot field anything. Be sure to make full use of them, synergize them with your other cards from the main sets or reward cards, make them viable and win matches so as to earn more glint as we continue building up our collection. Do also take note of the bloodline to see how you are able to get them some boost from their fellow bloodline cards as well. Hopefully this series of post will help new players learn more about these foundation cards and improve their gameplay in ranked battles as they grow and affirm the footing on Splinterlands.

Let's continue to grow and find path in modern ranked battles as we journey on playing Splinterlands.
