Adapting to Modern: Learning Integrating Foundation Cards Into Your Battles Part 12

Prelude
Greeting to all, how are you this midweek, hope you are doing really fine and welcome back to another new post on Adapting to Modern. With the launch of the foundation card set, it is evident that these cards will somehow become part of the available cards that we can play during normal ranked battle and truly I use them in my ranked battles. If you follow what I share on my weekly Splinterlands posts on match sharing, there are quite a number of foundation cards that will somehow creep into those lineup which means they can also perform in ranked battles. I am happy to share that I have gotten a copy of the common jackpot frontier card. After multiple claims daily, finally it showed up and I am really glad it did. Towards the end of the foundation series, I will continue to share on these jackpot cards.

For me, these foundations cards are important because they give newcomers a decent push to strengthen and expand their collection until they have sufficient DEC/SPS or through other methods of capital injection to purchase main set packs or buy cards off the market that can truly elevate their lineup in ranked battles. In this series, I will be deep diving into various foundation cards that we can obtain from playing frontier matches and opening foundation packs.

Foundation Set Cards

For the deep dive and analysis, I will be discussing about the growth of the cards and if they are able to synergize with modern cards to aid you in your ranked battles. This time round, assessment and recommendation will be within the card's own paragraph than having a segment on their own, so take note in the structural change in the post. Let's begin today's sharing.

Kicking Roc

Let's begin looking at the foundation card, Kicking Roc. This card has no ability but right at level 1, it already strikes for 3 damage but unfortunately, it doesn't increase when the card levels up and caps at 3 damage. However, 3 damage at 8 mana is quite a decent bargain. Whenever I need some heavy artillery, this card will be considered.

In terms of growth for this card, we only get stat boost in health and nothing else. If not for the base attack is already high, I would have seriously doubt that this card is an epic card. This is just a beast that keep delivering a heavy magic attack.

In terms of rating for this card, based on a score of 5, it will get about 2.8/5. I like the amount of damage it can do but unfortunately, the scaling in growth is not as good with the max level card just better than base card by 2 health only.

Glimmermancer

Now we look at another card from Earth splinter, Glimmermancer. The only other magic card for earth splinter with the other magic card being Time Bandit. And surprisingly like Kicking Roc, it is also a card that only differs from its main card by 2 health. As it is scarce for magic attackers, it is a little more important for earth splinter when rulesets gives advantages to melee or range attackers with shield.

Exact same problem in terms of growth for this card as the Kicking Roc, there is nothing much in terms of growth when the card levels up because the only stat that improves is health.

In terms of rating for this card, it will take a rating of 3.0 out of 5. With the same problem as Kicking Roc on growth, why do I rate it slightly higher? Reason being that this is a magic attacker that can stand at position 1 and continue attacking but range attackers when coming to position 1, they get stuck and cannot do any damage. Otherwise, both cards are decent and of strong utility. But to make the cut for modern rank battles, probably there are other alternatives.

Wrap Up
Though most of the foundation cards need a little more mana that cards from the main sets, when they come into the matches, they help to fill mana gaps in our collection that we are lacking or when there is just this odd mana or two that you cannot field anything. Be sure to make full use of them, synergize them with your other cards from the main sets or reward cards, make them viable and win matches so as to earn more glint as we continue building up our collection. Do also take note of the bloodline to see how you are able to get them some boost from their fellow bloodline cards as well. Hopefully this series of post will help new players learn more about these foundation cards and improve their gameplay in ranked battles as they grow and affirm the footing on Splinterlands.

Let's continue to grow and find path in modern ranked battles as we journey on playing Splinterlands.

Oh the kicking roc throws some nice slaps with that damage!

Kicking Roc starts off at max ability and little room for growth feels a little wasted.
