Ever since I unlocked the Gold League in Modern yesterday, I had been constantly thinking about the irony: I hadn't reached the Gold League in Wild mode—where I played almost exclusively this entire season—yet I managed to reach it in Modern, where I had played less than 10% of my battles. I hadn't actually planned it this way; in fact, I wanted to set all my records in Wild mode. However, the gameplay in Wild turned out to be so chaotic that I couldn't even achieve 50% of the results I had anticipated. Frustrated, I started playing in Modern because I needed to earn Glint; the Glint earnings in Wild were so slow and meager—not even half of what I could earn in Modern—that it felt like a losing proposition, especially considering I had already spent 6,000–7,000 DEC there. Anyway, I put in a concerted effort starting yesterday and finally managed to unlock the Gold League in Wild just a short while ago.
This was made possible thanks to a specific card. You might wonder how a single card can consistently secure a win; well, let me tell you—if you play in the 'Wild' format, try strategically placing a max-level 'Gelatinous Cube' alongside a card with the 'Weapon Training' ability in key lineup spots, and let me know how it performs. Sharing every single battle here would likely confuse you more than explain things, so I’ll just share my experience. This card has won me battles where it was the last one standing—with only 1 or 2 magic attack power—against 2, 3, or even 4 enemies, all of whom had attack power of 2 or higher. Just imagine what this card must have done to triumph in such a tough situation. It all comes down to its two abilities, which strengthen it by healing more damage than it receives. And the best part? It’s a 'Grey' card, meaning you can summon it in almost every battle. I’m genuinely hoping to find a card like this in the 'Arcana' set; if I did, I’d buy it immediately. However, from what I’ve gathered so far, there isn't a card like that in the Arcana set yet. So, I’ll wait—whenever a card like that appears in a new set, I’ll definitely make it part of my deck.
Now, let's talk about the welcome loot received upon unlocking Wild Gold. I received a total of 11 chests—7 Minor and 4 Major. I’m always happy as long as I keep getting cards from these chests, since they play the primary role in the game. From the 7 Minor chests, I got 4 cards of Common rarity, along with some Merits and a useless Alchemy Potion. Regarding the cards: I have upgraded the Thornmaw Berserker (Death element), Cullborn Revenant (Fire element), and both Husk of the Hunter and Stonebind Matron (Earth element) to Level 3. These upgrades have added significant abilities and stat boosts; for instance, the Stonebind Matron now has 5 Health and 5 Speed ​​at Level 3, while the Husk of the Hunter has gained an extra health point and the 'Headwinds' ability. Similarly, the Cullborn Revenant is now faster and has more health, and the Thornmaw Berserker has gained +1 Armor along with the 'Final Rest' ability. All in all, not only were these cards already part of my deck, but they have now been upgraded to Level 3 and are currently on the path to reaching Level 4.
Additionally, from four major chests, I received two cards—alongside some energy and merits—one of which is the Death element's 'Careless Badger.' In my deck, it is upgraded to Level 3, featuring a +1 speed boost and the 'Opportunity' ability. However, I must admit I don't particularly like this card and have rarely—if ever—used it so far; while it might become worth summoning if upgraded to the maximum level in the future, its base health of just 1 currently prevents me from fielding it under any circumstances. I also acquired the Fire element's magic attack card, 'Voss,' at Level 1—a first for my deck. Although its stats are quite weak, its ability is special; the 'Bloodline Tribute' ability is excellent because, upon being knocked out, it grants a +1 boost to all stats—health, armor, speed, and magic attack power—to other cards sharing the same bloodline. That is an amazing superpower; I will certainly use it strategically and share my actual battleground experience with it.
Splinterlands isn't an easy place, but that's what makes it even more fun. A perfect strategy takes into account many factors, including stats, abilities, rulesets, mana caps, and more. That's why it's even more important to consider all these factors when developing a strategy.
