Splinterlands: Upgrading My Gold Foil Death Splinter Team!

Over the years I have been playing Spinterlands ever since fall of 2021. The game sure looks a lot different now that it did back then and is certainly a lot more complicated. I can say that over most of those years I have rarely played with many gold cards because they were always expensive and rather hard to get those lucky pulls on reward cards. Recently, I have put together a gold foil team in the death splinter, not really on purpose, it just happened to turn out that way. Mostly from sheer luck and finding extremely good deals on gold foil prices that even beat the regular foils.

I recently made some upgrades to the team, primarily by now having a maxed out gold foil archon Thalgrimore which was mostly sheer luck. The other upgrade was to Fenmoor Gorgon buying a total of five gold foil copies from card sales profits to make her a level five adding the Cripple ability. In her case the gold foils are selling at a better prices that the regular foil, go figure... Makes no sense to me but I'll take the deal! It is fun to have a team that is almost entirely gold foil or better, it's a first for me in the game!

First, here are Fenmoor Gorgon's stats, as you see level five grants Cripple decreasing the max health of your target upon successful attack.

And Thalgrimore, a Foundations card that maxes out at level four. Right now it is the only death splinter archon I have that can be played in Modern Mode. However, for some reason it still can't be used in brawling.

Well, now that I have my two new toys, lets have a look at them in action!

The above screenshot shows the battlefield just after the buffs have been applied but before the action has started. This battle is Modern with a man a cap of 43 with the ruleset of Arcane Dampening. What that means is that magic attacks lose fifty percent of their effectiveness, making magic maybe not the be attack for this case. So what did I do? I used magic... Sometimes you have to roll the dice!

I chose my new gold foil Thalgrimore as archon which decreases the health of all units on the opposing team by one. For tank I went with my gold foil Ujurak Brave which decreases the opponent's magic attacks by one. Next up I chose my gold foil Dark Arborist as it has magic reflect and also decreases the melee attack of the opposing team members by one. I followed this with my gold foil Sorrow Harvester which decreases the health of enemy units by one additional unit. Then I brought in one of my newly upgraded toys Fenmoor Gorgon which is gold foil as well, she decreases the enemy's units melee attacks by one more unit as well as provides Cripple which decreases a target's maximal health by one upon a successful attack. I round the team off with one of my favorite cards (alas, not gold foil...) Arachne Weaver for it's Corrupted Healingand Scavenge ability and a taunt in the end with New Beluroc Aegis in black foil.

My opponent chose Cryptic as his archon which decreases my teams speed by one and chose the option to give poison to two of his units as well. The tank is Halfling Refugee in a bit of a spooky skin from Halloween followed by Taye Loreswift. Next up was Ironwing Juggernaught followed by Gramel the Hunger. Rouding things out were Arachne Weaver and Barashkukor. Fortunately, the archon is only level one or I might have been in very big trouble! Then again when I saw him give poison to Gramel and Barashkukor I thought I might be done for...

Near the end of round one first blood is drawn as Halfling Refugee takes a fall for my opponent.

Starting round two this is how things were shaping up, two members of my team took two damage from poison... I hate that stuff...

I take my first loss halfway through round two as my taunt card goes down for the count.

By round three things are looking a little better for me thanks to the healing of the Arachne Weaver, who is staying strong thanks to Scavenge and gaining health as any card of the field dies.

And Gramel finally goes down! That always feels good, he is one tough card!

Now we are down to one against my three, things are looking pretty good!

And my magic mushroom Dark Arborist is killed off, and in turn thanks to Magic Reflect delvers the final deathblow to Barashkukor. Great game to my opponent!

Sometimes you can beat a very strong team if you have things set up just right, not to mention a little luck never hurts either. Had Cryptic been level two with a higher lever Gramel the Hunger things could have turned out very differently. So I was thrilled to get a win on this one, it was a very tough team my opponent put together!

One nice thing is with this team I am earning a 70% boost on SPS and glint earnings. 50% from gold foils, 20% from the black foil, and a guild 5% bonus. Not too shabby!

Ten Foundations Packs Opened

I always like sharing opening some of these pack openings as I win them in daily rewards. Sometimes you pull some great cards, sometimes you don't. It's all luck!

First bunch we get two gold foil pulls with a Dreaded Tafarian and Grand Consul Minion. Beyond that nothing too special...

Here I pull two Barthalamus archons and and Aurelia archon. Also a nice legendary pull with Giam Root and two epics as well. Not to mention a gold foil pull as well. Pretty sweet!

Here a Lady Amara epic card, but nothing else too special...

And again nothing too special. What do I do with the extra cards since my decks are maxed out? Some I will put up for sale where they have some value. Others I will give away and many I will end up burning in exchange for entries for a chance to pull a black foil or arcane card in the weekly drawing. So there really is no such thing as a useless card!
