Splinterlands: The Return of Djinn Oshannus and My End of Season Report

It isn't exactly Return of the Jedi, but the return of Djinn Oshannus to Modern has been pretty exciting. This is possible due to the new ruleset that I see more and more now, Outsider. It allows you to bring in one of your older generation cards into your team for Modern play!

I'll talk more about why it's such a great card in just a minute, but first let me do a recap on the end of my last season. I finished in Modern much better than anticipated as I was in Diamond III!

And I finished well on the leaderboard as well, at number eight. That gave me a 100,000 glint bonus which was really nice!

And my end of season glint came to just over 290,000, I believe that's the best I've ever had! That was due to the bonus of course!

So what to do with the glint? I went for four legendary pulls, none of which let me upgrade cards, but I got a new one Nyasha Mbalika. An interesting card, but not one that really has the feel of a true legendary. But it's always nice to add an extra card with nice firepower to your fire team!

Now back to Djinn Oshannus!

This was a rewards card given out during the Chaos era and I still remember pulling my first one! I was stoked! At the time the card was worth around $50, I didn't sell it though as I wanted to use it in battle. In retrospect, I probably should have sold and rebought it cheaper later. Oh well... At one point I had a gold foil level four copy of this one, I sold it off some time ago when the cards started to drop in value.

What's great about this particular card is his high health, his speed and abilities. At level one he comes with Void which means it takes a 50% reduction in magic attacks, making it a pretty good tank. Then at level two you get Phase so that magic attacks have the same chance of missing as do melee and ranged attacks. At level three he picks up Forcefield meaning that all attacks of five or more units only result in one point of health loss, making it an even tougher tank. And at level four he picks up an additional magic attack making it a really deadly card!

This card was one you did not want to play without back before the game was split into Wild and Modern. It's once again becoming a nice tool as you can use it in your play in your teams in the latter!

Let's see Djinn Oshannus in action!

You can see the whole battle by clicking this link here.

This is a battle in Modern with a mana cap of 57 and some added rulesets. First we have Outsider which is one of my favorite new ones they have added. It allows you to summon one Wild unit for your team, it really makes things fun! Next was Fire & Regret meaning that all ranged units will have return fire against them on every successful strike they make. Last was Healed Out meaning no healing is allowed during the battle.

The above screenshot is after buffs have been applied but before the fighting has commenced.

For my archon I decided to use Marlai Singariel, as she grants one extra magic attack to all magic monsters on my team. In first position I placed Wailsworn Specter as it gives all my undead and shapeshift team members Bloodline Tribute increasing their health, speed, and firepower when it falls. For my tank I chose Blue Wyrm Travesty (an undead monster) followed by a secondary tank of Djinn Oshannus. Next I placed another undead monster, Mindless Thrall, followed by a shapeshift unit Portia Nyr. Shapeshift is an ability that allows the card to receive Bloodline Tribute from any bloodline. To round off the team I chose Captain Fellblade.

My opponent chose Kaylia Silverleaf as archon, she is one of my personal favorites when the mana cap is right. For tank they went with Doomshield Warden which is a great card, followed by Stonebind Matron which I found odd as it's not a melee card. Next up they used the Mindless Thrall followed by Portia Nyr. To round out the team they used Forlorn Geomant and Halfling Refugee. Not a bad team!

In round one my Wailsworn Specter is finished off giving Bloodline Tribute to three of my team members.

By round two both of our tanks are starting to look rather weak...

Midway through the round my Djinn Oshannus moves into the tank position.

And what I love about him is the Phase ability as he gets two magic misses in a row!

By round three the opposing team is down to three cards left.

Round four and my opponent is down to the last two cards, but the last one is a tough one!

And Portia Nyr delivers the final death blow with her four magic attack finishing off the Forlorn Geomant. Good game to my opponent! Having the secondary tank Djinn Oshannush really helped protect my backline once my tank had fallen. It's one of the reasons I always loved using the card, and I still use it frequently in Brawls. The other factor that made a huge impact was the Bloodline Tribute as it really increased the firepower of two cards of my backline. It's an ability that really is a lot of fun to use, and dangerous to your opponent!

Pack Openings

Today I decided to share some Foundations packs that I opened today. It came out pretty nicely on a couple pulls! These packs can be purchased for DEC or won by playing in Frontier Mode in Gold League when you finish daily rewards.

The first pack was kind of disappointing with nothing special, but the second didn't disappoint! I pulled two gold foils, one Dread Tafarian and more importantly Sorrow Harvester, which is an epic card, and is somewhat expensive.

The last pack had one exciting moment when the last card shook telling me a legendary was on it's way. I was hoping for a flash of gold after it turned but not such luck, just a regular foil Agniavan Salamander. It's one of the least sought after legendary cards...

But overall not too bad! The only problem with a lot of the Foundations cards is they are becoming overpopulated making them less and less valuable. I already have a maxed out deck so I tend to give away these cards, sell them, or many I just burn in return for entries into the weekly drawing for a chance for a black foil or arcane card in the contest.

If you don't yet play Splinterlands, it is a fun game and free to play in Frontier Mode. So give a try, if you haven't joined in on the fun of playing Splinterlands you can join here: https://splinterlands.com?ref=thebighigg !

How is Splinterlands holding up?

I blew a bunch of glint today and got a whole lot of cards. I thought I saw one that was another Oshanus, so I thought this post was going to be about that. I probably just read it wrong though. I quickly combined them and then moved along with my day.
