Splinterlands: New Zero Mana Legendary Kyraseth Nythlarian

When I first started playing Splinterlands back before the days of Chaos, one of the coolest cards out there was the Furious Chicken. Why? Because it was a neutral zero mana card that you could use to fill in extra slots on the team even when you were out of mana. It's a great card that I still like to use in my Brawls today.

Then the Chaos cards came out with legendary zero mana cards which were very useful. But now they are only really good in Wild or Brawls. Then came along another zero man neutral card in Rebellion called Elanor Bravefoot. She's a great card with a couple health and ranged attack, but she is expensive. I don't have one sadly...

Now Escalation has come along bringing some more zero mana legendary cards to Modern. Yesterday, I was fortunate enough to sell off an expensive card giving me enough to buy the new death zero man legendary! Kyraseth Nythlarian is an awesome card that has melee Opportunity attack starting at level one. When leveled up not only does she gain health and attack, but also Bloodline Pact, which increases the power of each card of the same bloodline after a successful kill from one of them. However, there is a downside, upon the death of one of them, the others all take one unit true damage. Played right it could be a great way to win battles, played wrong it could hurt you!

Pretty cool isn't she? There are also zero mana legendary cards for water, earth, and life as well. So far they are all a little expensive, but I anticipate prices will come down as more packs are opened. But it is fun to have a shiny, new toy!

First off this is going to be a mana cap battle of 17, so pretty low. As a ruleset, we have Up To Eleven, meaning all monsters have amplify increasing damage from retaliate or punishment abilities. I chose the death splinter with Thalgrimore as my archon which decreases the overall health of the enemy monsters by one. I then went with Halfling Refugee as my tank which is very useful in low mana situations. Next I went with Grifzi followed by Broken Earth Thug. To round out the team I went with the big star of the team, Arachne Weaver, followed by my new zero mana legendary card Kyraseth Nythlarian.

My opponent also chose the death splinter but chose to use Dolfar Darflak as the archon which is a great choice in low mana matches. The tank was Fenmoor Haunt followed by Wailing Wraith. To round out the team they used Chaos Jailer and Ahna-Chei Botanist. To be completely honest, I have none of those cards and have very little experience with them, so this was all new to me!

This being the Ambush round the Chaos Jailer got an extra attack before the match begins. This immediately took out Kyraseth Nythlarian. But let's be honest, that's kind of her purpose. She's meant to be the first sacrifice saving a hit on the rest of the team so she did her job admirably!

So here we go with round one!

Before the end of the round Fenmoor Haunt and the Wailing Wraith had both bitten the dust on attacks from my high attack team. The Scavenge ability of the Arachne Weaver simply gained more and more health for the unit. Additionally, the Corrupted Healing allowed it to heal my backline units keeping them alive through the round.

By mid round two Chaos Jailer goes down for the count after a hit from Halfling Refugee. At this point the game is pretty much over...

Broken Earth Thug delivers the final death blow to end the game.

Great game to my opponent! The card that really made a huge difference as always is the Arachne Weaver, but my new card lived up to her potential as an early sacrifice perfectly. After all, isn't that what zero mana cards are designed for in the end?

Five Foundations Packs Opened

As always on these posts, I love to share the days pack openings that I've earned playing today. Today wasn't too shabby, lets' have a look!

First up a couple of gold foil cards which are always welcome, Codex Sage and Colossal Raider. The nicest pull was the epic card Lady Amara here though!

Next up there was that shaking of one of the cards before it flipped which always gets me excited. Sadly, no flash of gold followed... But still a Celestial Guardian, not a bad legendary card. The best pull here was the epic card Salt Water Mage, she is an awesome card!

And nothing too special here... I've had better pack openings and worse, so I'll take it! I hope you enjoyed the packs opened, it's always fun to see. On occasion you can get a really lucky pull!
