Splinterlands: New Starlight Packs, And Trying Out A Starlight Card!

Splinterlands is making Frontier Mode more and more interesting. For the longest time there were only a few cards available for play, but recently some new ones were introduced that have been serious gamechangers, making it much more difficult to win without them. Once again, the team is bringing in a brand new batch of 36 cards with Starlight Packs to shake things up!

There are two ways to get them. You can purchase them with credits purchased with fiat or win tokens to claim them by winning games in Frontier. As you can see, the Cosmic comes with a guaranteed gold foil arcane or black foil card! But 15,000 credits is going to run you $150 US, outside my budget! lol

Now, as for winning them...

The more you play and win in Frontier each day, the higher chance you have of pulling a token. So far I've not pulled one, but I'm still crossing my fingers each time I get a daily reward!

I wanted to try some of the cards out, so I decided to pick up a couple of the less expensive ones. You can sell these on the market. This one has no attack and can't be weapons trained. But does cost three mana which can fill holes on teams rather nicely from time to time. So I picked one up!

Mirela Veils is an interesting card, not because it is a huge gamechanger, but because of its mana cost. Plus at level two it picks up Magic Reflect which can be useful against an opponent you know will be using a lot of magic attack. Right now I see mine as cannon fodder to be placed strategically kind of like the good old Furious Chicken, only it's not zero mana! That may change if I pick up more copies and am able to level it up to a level two or higher.

Now to see the card it action, or well, better said inaction, as it doesn't really do anything!

This battle was played on my secondary account, just an FYI.

This battle was in Frontier with a mana cap on 38 and rulesets of Born Again, every unit is resurrected once with full armor and one health, and Healed Out, no healing can take place.

I chose Barthalamas as my archon granting one additional unit of speed to each of my cards. My tank was Frank Arsgard and my reach card Chaos Furybringer. I then brought in the legendary A'lan Musketeer followed by the new card Mirela Veils. I placed it there to act as extra protection for my ranged card if my final card fell. In last place I placed a taunt card to draw enemy fire.

My opponent chose the same archon and first two cards. However, they used Spellmonger next followed by Vengeful Monk. Last up, they used A'lan Musketeer.

This was a long match as people kept coming back from the dead... So I won't show round by round progress.

Round four and we finally see some progress!

Round five things don't look good for my opponent.

By round six it's all but over as the last card on the opposing team is ranged and can't fire from first position.

And Frank Arsgard delivers the final deathblow. Great game to my opponent. In the end the taunt card made all the difference here, it took the brunt of the damage really gave me the win. My new card didn't play a factor in the least, but at least I got to use it in a winning match!

These were my most recently won packs. I always like to share some pack openings, you never know what you will find... Let's see what comes up in these pulls!

Kind of a meh bunch...

But at the end I get a legendary A'lan Musketeer and a gold foil Lunaki Howler. Not too shabby! If only the gold foil had been the legendary, but no luck there today!
