Splinterlands: My New Ecalation Addition, The Magnificent Mollusk!

Today I added a new card to my Death splinter team in Splinterlands. It comes from the new Escalation packs which are filled with some great new monsters with an array of new tools making it easier to win matches. The one I picked up today is one that comes with a walloping ranged attack of seven, the Magnificent Mollusk. I'm not sure if the name came as a tribute to the old movie "The Magnificent Seven", but I wouldn't doubt it, as many cards are named in tribute of people or other items! There are two version of the movie, the original (and best) from 1960 starring Steve McQueen and Charles Bronson, and the one from 2016 starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt. Both are great westerns though!

As you can see I chose to upgrade the card to a level five. There is a simple reason for it, you gain the demoralize ability at level five in addition to the extra firepower at level four. At level ten she picks up apex strike and attacks the opponent with the most power, but his is a diamond level ability which I will likely never be needing!

The mana of this card is huge, meaning it is going to be limited to very high mana matches only. Oddly, this card was cheaper in regular foil than in gold foil, lately it's been the other way around for many of my other Escalation card purchases. But this was a purchase made from card sales profits, so none comes out of my pocket which is important! This is going to be an important Death splinter card for any high mana situation, and can be very dangerous. If it had pierce it would be completely devastating to the opposing team, which is probably why it wasn't added as an ability!

Now to see my new card in action!

You can see the whole battle at this link here.

First off, this is a Modern battle with a mana cap of 95 and a normal rule set for play. Perfect for some high mana card action! Above you see the field after all the buffs have been applied and right before the action starts.

I chose my archon as Thalgrimore as he is the only archon I have in Modern, plus he decreases the health of all enemy units by one which is pretty useful! Next up I went with a heavy tank Doomshield Warden and thanks to his flank ability the following card has the reach ability to attack the opponent's first card. Next up I went with Ujurak Brave for his magic suppress (silence) that decreases the opponent's monsters magic attack by one. Dark Arborist came next for her magic reflect that returns fire on magic attacks and demoralize which decreases the enemy's monsters melee attack by one. I then chose Sorrow Harvester as she decreases the health of each monster on the opposing team by one. To round off I used my favorite Arachne Weaver for corrupted healing, healing essentially my whole team and the scavenger ability to pick up one health when any monster dies on either team and then the new toy Magnificent Mollusk which also uses demoralize. She also has a nasty ranged attack of seven!

My opponent chose Nidhoggr as archon, a very tough one to beat. Fortunately, it's just level one! In this case it give three monsters swiftness upping their speed and execute which allows them a second attack to kill the opponent if after an attack the opposing monster has two or less health remaining. His tank was the formidable Ulundin Overseer followed by the Night Reaper. Interestingly, no melee attacker was placed there. Night Reaper received both swiftness and execute. Next he placed Silverleaf Warlock which grants swiftness or speed to the entire team, he also received more swiftness and execute. Then came Calamity, who also received swiftness and execute. It's very fast and has a great magic attack, but also has electrified that deals one damage to each of it's teammates starting round two. Rounding out the team were Bellowmancer with it's taunt ability and magic attack, then came Helheim Demon which also is a taunt card as well as flying. Overall, a nice team!

Once things got rolling here you can see the first attack by my Magnificent Mollusk with it's seven attack demolishing the shield of the Bellowmancer. It's too bad she doesn't have pierce as well...

Round two starts and Calamity does it's damage to start the round...

Here my Magnificent Mollusk wipes out some more shielding on the Helheim Demon.

By round three my opponent has lost both taunt cards and Calamity again does it's damage.

Unfortunately for my opponent, it finished off Silverleaf Warlock.

Halfway through round three my team has yet to take a casualty and my opponent is down to two cards, not looking too good!

Soon we were down to just Calamity.

Magnificent Mollusk tried to finish off Calamity, but the speed proves just too fast resulting in a miss.

And the final deathblow is delivered by the magic mushroom Dark Arborist . What a great card, it's won me so many matches! Great game to my opponent, I was very lucky the archon wasn't level two or things might have come out very differently. I was impressed with the firepower of my new Magnificent Mollusk and will be using it it a lot more of my future high mana matches!

Opening 2 Foundations Packs

Normally I save up a bunch to open at once, but lately I've forgotten. So today we have just two...

Not too bad, two archons, Barthalamas and Incessant Sage, and an epic Lady Amara. Many people complain about her as a card, but her health can be useful against blast! And a gold foil Dire Bear, these used to sell for good money, but not so much anymore. No card lacks it's usage though, I often give away excess cards since my deck is maxed out or sell off some as well. Then the one's that really aren't worth selling I just burn in exchange for entries into the weekly draw for some black foil or arcane cards.

You can win these packs by playing at the gold level in Frontier Mode. In your daily rewards you can receive one after winning five ranked battles. They can be sold on the market or opened, I usually open them. but that's just me! It fun to see what might pop up...

If you don't yet play Splinterlands it is a fun game and free to play in Frontier Mode. So give a try, if you haven't joined in on the fun of playing Splinterlands you can join here: https://splinterlands.com?ref=thebighigg

excelente post. me gusto mucho la explicacion de porque subiste la carta al nivel cinco para ganar esa habilidad de demoralize, a veces un solo nivel cambia toda la partida. que suerte con esos packs de regalo al final.. saludos!

Excellent post. I really liked the explanation of why you upgraded the card to level five to gain that demoralize ability, sometimes a single level changes the whole game. Good luck with those gift packs at the end. Regards!
