Splinterlands: Moving Up The Ranks to Gold Division 6, Thanks To Captain Frankie

In Splinterlands this new season has had massive changes in the Modern format. You now have to choose a bracket in which you will play the entire season. I only really had the cards to play in Gold, even though I usually have ended up in Diamond most seasons. I just didn't have enough archons to qualify. So I am content with Gold!

You start the season at the very bottom in Division 9. It's like playing in Wood and you have to win your way up Division by Division. It's taken a few days but by using Captain Frankie teams I managed to push through the lower divisions up the Division 6! The rewards get much better in each division, and I hope to make it to Division 5 today or tomorrow. We'll see how it goes...

As you can see above I'm currently in Gold Division 6.

Why Captain Frankie you might ask? He's a really tough archon to beat when played correctly, in the right situations.

What makes him so tough is the stacked melee attacks. As you will see in the battle today my Doomshield Warden starts with ten melee attack, that is devastating. Plus two cards receive the Pierce ability so that any excess attack that destroys a shield goes into the opponent's cards health. It makes one shot kills very easy. I don't actually own this card, I rent it every season and it's fairly reasonable. But with the glint I earn it makes it well worth my while!

Here is one battle to show just how effective a Captain Frankie team is in climbing the ranks under the new Modern play system!

Now for today's featured battle!

This screenshot was taken after buffs were applied but before the action has started.

This battle is in Modern with a mana cap of 92 leaving the door open to nearly endless possibilities. The ruleset is What Doesn't Kill You meaning that melee units have Enrage. That means once they take some damage their attack and speed increase by fifty percent rounded up. So it felt like a great situation to use a Captain Frankie melee heavy team.

For archon as I mentioned I have been using Captain Frankie a lot as it really helps power through those lower divisions. Again here, he is my archon, and my tank is Doomshield Warden followed by Saltwraith Bulkhead getting the reach ability from the tank card. Next up I used Skritka for his dual attack following it up with Olivia Of The Brook. To Round off the team I used legendary card Kervik and for the tail end I used a heavy card Magnificent Mollusk.

My opponent used Prunda Undervesch as archon and then Silverblade Fighter as a tank. Next up was Commander Slade followed by Tidal Tsunamist. Then they used Conclave Tracker followed by Foundations card Saltwater Mage. For the tail end they brought in Anasth Soothsayer. To be completely honest, half of those cards I have no experience with, so it's fun to see them in action!

By round two my opponent has lost their tail end and tank cards already thanks to stacked melee attacks by my cards.

Here Saltwraith Bulkhead easily takes out Commander Slade with a nine melee attack and pierce ability.

Skritka earns his keep here taking out Tidal Tsunamist with first a ranged attack then a massive seven melee hit.

And Olivia Of The Brook takes the final death shot ending the match. Great game to my opponent! Captain Frankie just overpowered the opponents team from the start, that stacked melee attack along with two cards with pierce are just really hard to beat. It's why it has been my most commonly used archon pushing my way up to Division Six. Things are more challenging here, so I'm having to use more variety now, but it feels good to be climbing up the ranks and earning some glint at last!

Opening Six Foundations Packs

Like always I like to share some pack openings. Today I opened these six packs. Although there is nothing truly special, it could have been much worse. I am still hoping for a nice gold legendary eventually, but no dice today!

Here I got a gold foil Spinetail Fiend, which isn't all that valuable. But it allowed me to max out a gold foil copy today which was nice...

And here I pulled two Aurelia cards and a Thalgrimore, archons are always welcome pulls! Nothing to write home about, but it could have been worse, but I had hoped for better. Such is life!

If you don't yet play Splinterlands, it is a fun game and free to play in Frontier Mode. So give a try, if you haven't joined in on the fun of playing Splinterlands you can join here: https://splinterlands.com?ref=thebighigg
