Splinterlands: Jolius Blast, A New Game Changing Frontier Card

It's been some time since I did a post about Splinterlands. Today I decided to put one together because I picked up a new card not all that long ago. Frontier Mode has been shaken up a bit lately by the addition of some new cards, many of them have been game changers. Jolius Blast is sure looking like one that is going to change things, if you are lucky enough to pull one.

They are a bit expensive to purchase right now. Hopefully they will come down in price eventually. They can be obtained through lucky pulls for completing daily tasks, purchased using Sparks won by spinning the wheel of Lux's Favor once daily, or by paying for them. It is a card I am seeing more often in matches, so to stay competitive it's a good idea to have one!

Starting at level one this card has some pretty nice stats of twelve health and three melee attack. It's mana cost is high though, at thirteen it can only be used in very high mana matches. It does come with Void from level one so it takes fifty percent less magic damage. At level two it gains Enrage which means it gains fifty percent melee power and speed if not at full health. A good thing to have in a tank. At level four it gains Retaliate meaning it has a fifty percent chance of returning attack against melee hits, even if defeated.

These are still fairly expensive, so even getting to level two is costly. I was fortunate to get one copy, let alone the five needed to level it up. This is going to become an invaluable part of Frontier play, and may even become useful in Modern once maxed out. I'm still figuring out how to best use it at level one, and so far it's not bad!

This is a screenshot after buffs are applied but before the action has started. The mana cap in 99, so basically anything can be used from Frontier. The ruleset is Enraged Warriors, so melee cards attack first.

For archon I went with Barthalamus as he grants one extra speed to all cards on the team. The tank I chose was Jolius Blast followed by the reach card Buns The Unseen. He is leveled up to level 2 which helps against magic attacks. Next I went with Great Bear Druid followed by Sturdy Axe Warden. To round out the team I used A'lan Musketeer and the taunt card New Beluroc Aegis.

My opponent used the same archon and tank as I did making the match more interesting. However, in second position they used Chaos Furybringer followed by Agniavan Salamander. Then for some more archers with Ash Archer and Sturdy Axe Warden. At the end they use the taunt as well just like I did on my team.

By round two the tanks are beating each other up and the taunt cards are taking the brunt of the damage.

My Jolius Blast goes down first, fortunately Buns The Unseen with his heavy shielding steps up.

By round three I was getting a little worried, but I still has a lot of aces up my sleeve.

I finally take out the opposing Jolius Blast. I can't wait to get mine to level two to make it so much stronger!

By round four things are looking pretty bleak for my opponent, in no small part due to Buns The Unseen

And by round five it is all but done...

The final death blow comes from Sturdy Axe Warden. Good game to my opponent. In the end Buns The Unseen at level two really made the difference. Another new card that I was lucky enough to level up. But as you can see Jolius Blast is showing up more and more in matches and is going to change how Frontier matches are played with high mana in the near future. You may want to shop around for a good deal on one, or wait and see if they come down in price.

Opening Six Foundations Packs

I always like to include some pack openings, today is no exception.

Not too bad, a legendary pull and a life archon. Too bad the legendary wasn't gold foil, but you can't win them all!

And a Marlai Singariel water archon and a legendary Little Sister. Again, not gold foil, but I'll take it. I've had better pack openings, but I've had worse. All of these cards will likely go on the market for sale, or maybe get burned. We'll see how the market looks...
