This morning I hadn't planned on doing a Splinterlands post. However, I did recently pick up a new toy which I have been meaning to post about, Gorvash The Pallid. Then, I got a very exciting surprise from the weekly drawing in Frontier League, I won a black foil card! So I decided I had to write up a post today after all!
First up, the black foil card that I won. Spinetail Fiend is a death card from the Foundations cards. I was rather shocked to win anything, because to be completely honest, this account has never one any before! It was an exciting first!

The nice thing about black foil cards is they come at max level. No need to level them up which is really dope. It would have been even more exciting to get an arcane, but beggars can't be choosers in Splinterlands...

Now onto the Escalation card Gorvash The Pallid. I managed to earn enough from card sales lately to pick up a copy of this one and also the fire zero mana cards. I love being able to have zero mana cards available, ever since the Furious Chicken I have been hooked on them. So here's a look at this new life zero mana beauty:

Okay, maybe he's not pretty, but he does have Snipe from level one with a ranged attack of one. At level two he picks up Bloodline Pact and at level four his attack increases to two ranged damage. Overall, a very nice card to have in your arsenal. And the best part about zero mana is it fills in a team where there is a hole, especially in low mana situations.
I foresee using this card a whole lot with my Life teams in future matches. It's always fun to pick up a shiny new toy!

Now time to see Gorvash The Pallid in action:
To see the whole battle you can click this link here.

This is a battle in Modern with a mana cap of 35 and rulesets of Ferocity and Briar Patch. That means that all units to double double damage to a taunt monster and any melee attacks with be punished by thorns costing two health or shield points upon successful attack. The above screenshot is after the buffs have been applied but before the fighting has commenced.
For my archon I chose Incessant Sage providing one additional shield unit to each member of my team. For my tank I took a risk going with a melee monster Saltwraith Bulkhead, but I figured his armor should buy me some time. I followed this with Frigid Wolf and then Janni Rebel as it increases melee attacks using Inspire. Then I chose Nessa, one of my new favorite legendary cards due to here flying and True Strike ability meaning her attacks do not miss. Next I brought in my epic gold foil White Chickadee, who has no attack but it a healer and is only three mana! And last up was Gorvash The Pallid, my new toy, which is zero mana and has one ranged attack.
My opponent also chose Incessant Sage as archon and place Halfling Refugee as tank, never a bad choice! Next up they placed Pixie-knife Hurler followed by Nimbledook Explorer that adds shielding and picks up attack as well! Then they placed Janni Rebel and on the tail end placed Celestial Guardian. Overall a pretty solid team!

Starting round two both tanks have lost their shielding and the Halfling Refugee was in serious health trouble.

Here my White Chickadee proves it's worth healing my tank, throughout the match it kept healing up the first position card! I really like this card in the right scenarios!

By round three my tank is hurting but the little birdie is keeping it alive!

Here my tank is now gone, but this one just shows the value of Gorvash The Pallid as those one ranged attacks begin to wear down the backline.

Round four my first two tanks are gone, but with Janni Rebel now leading the charge!

Again, my new toy continues to wear down the backline...

By round six my opponent has two cards left and the White Chickadee is keeping my front card healthy! But soon Janni Rebel falls leaving Nessa in charge.

And Nessa delivers the final death blow! Good game to my opponent! Really the cards that saved the day for me were Nessa and the White Chickadee. Although Gorvash did contribute by weakening the backline, in the end he wasn't the star of the show in this match. But it does show just how much potential he has in lower mana matches especially when all the cards health are equal.
Definitely another exciting Escalation card!

Today I did throw in a Foundations pack opening that went pretty well.

Here I got a nice legendary pull of A'lan Musketeer and a gold Grand Consul Minion. The life archon isn't too shabby either!

And here I got another gold foil pull with Sherringham Logger. Not too bad for just three packs of cards I earned by playing Frontier and finishing my daily rewards in gold league.

Congrats. Some great pack luck and rewards. I love it when it all comes together like that.
That is so nice to be able to pull that black card. Although I don't think I use that card often, it's nice to have a black copy, isn't it?
