Fog of War Ruleset: How to Outlast Your Enemy

In Splinterlands rulesets change everything. For every specific set of rulesets you should have a set of go to teams. The amount of mana for the battle also plays an important role in team selection.

The Strategy

Here we have a fairly low mana ruleset at only nineteen mana. In this low mana ruleset my go to monster is usually Baakjira. It is really difficult to kill Baakjira in this kind of low mana battle unless you afflict it to prevent self heal. To make it even more difficult to kill I am including Merdaali Guardian which gives Baakjira one extra health as well as heals Baakjira with its tank heal ability.

Another key monster to this lineup is Kelp Initiate. I don't even have a high level Kelp Initiate, but even at level three this support monster has cleanse ability that would protect our Baakjira from being afflicted. I also included Torrent Spawn which also useful to keep our tank alive by reducing ranged attackers damage.

And last but not least we have Merdhampir which is our only damage dealer but also has an important Life Leach ability. I won countless battles due to the Merdhampir leaching health from our opponent monsters as it deals his damage in the overtime rounds where fatigue sets in.

The Lineup

Archon - Quix The Devioushttps://d36mxiodymuqjm.cloudfront.net/cards_by_level/chaos/Quix%20the%20Devious_lv4.png Quix the Devious is a legendary Archon from the Chaos Legion Core set. This summoner is useful in reducing the speed of the whole opposing team by one and by reducing their ranged output by one. Since our strategy is to keep our tank alive this is very useful.

Tank - Baakjirahttps://d36mxiodymuqjm.cloudfront.net/cards_by_level/chaos/Baakjira_lv4.png I believe that Baakjira is one of the best tanks in the game. This tank is really hard to kill in the ruleset where you have only nineteen mana available. This card is also from the Chaos Legion Core ruleset. This legendary monster comes with a base health of sixteen and has a void ability which reduces opponent magical damage, it also has slow and strengthen abilities which are helpful in this battle. And arguably it's main ability is self heal.

It does have one weakness which is that it lacks immunity, which means that it can be afflicted. And that is where the card I played in the second position comes in...

Cleansing - Kelp Initiatehttps://d36mxiodymuqjm.cloudfront.net/cards_by_level/reward/Kelp%20Initiate_lv3.png Kelp Initiate is an Untamed Reward card, my Kelp Initiate is only level three, but even at level three it comes with five speed, five health points and most importantly a cleansing ability that really helps if my tank is afflicted. Cleansing clears affliction and makes sure that Baakjira can heal himself and can be healed by Merdaali Guardian.

Range Attacker Nerf - Torrent Spawnhttps://d36mxiodymuqjm.cloudfront.net/cards_by_level/chaos/Torrent%20Spawn_lv4.png In the third position I have a zero mana card Torrent Spawn. Main role for this card is to serve as a range attack nerfing monster. It can also potentially be a meat shield but that is not it's primary role as it only comes with two health points.

Support Monster - Merdaali Guardianhttps://d36mxiodymuqjm.cloudfront.net/cards_by_level/chaos/Merdaali%20Guardian_lv8.png Merdaali Guardian is another member of the Chaos Legion Core set. This rare card is one of the best supporting monsters and in this play it is healing our primary tank and also boosts health of all friendly monsters. It also has an armor repair ability which is very helpful in the Armored Up ruleset that we have in effect.

Ranged Damage Dealer - Merdhampirhttps://d36mxiodymuqjm.cloudfront.net/cards_by_level/reward/Merdhampir_lv10.png And last but not least is our only damage dealer: Merdhampir. With a base ranged attack of three, initial health of six and four speed this four mana card is really useful. It also has a set of very useful abilities from which Life Leach is one of the most important ones as this card can keep gaining health with every strike and could become the deciding factor in the Fatigue stage of the battle.

The Battle

In this battle we meet a fully maxed out opponent who is using a pretty powerful weapons training strategy with six cards on the field and a lot of magic damage:

After the first five rounds it is becoming pretty clear that my opponent will not be able to get through my massive Baakjira tank. My opponent did bring in a monster with the affliction ability so Kelp Initiate with his cleansing is very critical in this battle:

After another eight rounds it is absolutely clear that our team will come out on top in this classic offence versus defense battle. And defensive strategy is clearly winning this skirmish:

By the time Fatigue rounds hit our Merdhampir is up to 24 health! And our opponents does not have any more attackers left on the field so it is now a matter of a few rounds before this is all over:

And just like that in round twenty two without loosing a single monster my team wins this battle taking home almost five SPS tokens and 1,249 Glint tokens:
