Newbies Guide to Tournaments and Some Tips | Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge

Hello everyone, Welcome to my Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge post. In this post, I will talk about tournaments in the Splinterlands, and more. I hope it will be useful for you.

Tournaments are one of the most fun parts of Splinterlands and I participate in tournaments that are suitable for me whenever I have the chance. Tournaments can be both very fun and very rewarding, I can say that I have won prizes from most of the tournaments I have participated in and I can also say that they have helped my account grow. I mostly stake the SPS rewards I win from tournaments, sometimes I buy cards with them, either way they help my account grow. I would also like to say that tournaments are more than just winning prizes for me, they are both fun and educational and are one of the most enjoyable ways to play more.

First of all, I recommend you to participate in tournaments that suit your deck. I usually start a season in Silver I League and finish it in Gold II League. And I usually participate in Novice, Bronze, Silver and Gold league tournaments and win prizes in most of them, even sometimes I came in first. It really feels great to receive the top award. Sometimes I even participate in Diamond League tournaments to test myself. Although the battles there were very difficult for me, sometimes I received rewards.

Not only leagues but also other rules are very important, joining the one that suits you best will allow you to get rewards. My deck is quite suitable for both Modern and Wild formats, so I join in tournaments in both formats. And I prefer tournaments where all Cards, Chaos Legion or Rebellion cards, are available because my deck is suitable for these types of tournaments. However, I do not prefer tournaments where these sets are used because my deck is not sufficient in terms of Untamed and Alpha cards. By the way, if you do not have enough power in the card sets included in the tournament rules, you cannot participate in the tournament anyway, which is a well-thought-out obstacle that prevents players from making mistakes. Because it is very difficult to win battles if you do not have the min power already.

To exemplify what I explained above, I will talk about how to enter a tournament and some tips below.

You can see all tournaments by clicking on Tournaments in Play icon in the top menu.

There are two types of tournament, Single Elimination and Anytime tournaments. As you can see in the WHEN section of the image above, Single Elimination tournaments are unlabeled, Anytime tournaments are labeled "Anytime".

Single elimination tournaments begin when the tournament time is met and the min number of players required to compete is reached, and before the tournament starts, you must click the Check In button within 15 minutes. And for each round you must submit your match within a limited time frame specified in the tournament details, otherwise the match will be surrendered automatically. Frankly, since I don't have much time, meaning I don't have a chance to know in advance when I'll be online, I don't enter single elimination tournaments. However, I enter tournaments organized by Hive users whose live streams I watch.

Anytime tournaments usually start at the scheduled time, and if you have paid the entry fee, the tournament will have started for you as well. As seen in the picture above, when a tournament will start is written under the WHEN section. The tournament details state how long you have to send your teams and it is usually 24 hours, I can say that I usually prefer the 24 hours.

Additionally, once the tournament has started, you can see how many battles you have been assigned to on the tournament page. Tournaments usually have two rounds, and if you have made it past the first round, you will have another 24 hours to submit your teams against a certain number of assigned opponents in the second round. At the end of the tournament, you will be ranked according to your total wins, draws, and losses you have achieved., and you will receive a predetermined reward based on your ranking. I will talk about this below.

Let's take a look at a tournament.

As seen at the top of the image above, the "Gauntlet Wild Bronze Invitational" tournament was created by sps.tournaments and hosted by SPS DAO. And the Arena will open in 2 days 11 hours 54 minutes 17 seconds.

Let's examine the details page of the tournament.

As seen in the picture above, the tournament is Wild event and will start on 10/22/2024 10:30:00 AM.

Although there are more than 2 days until the tournament starts, 52 players have already entered and there is no limit for entry.

To enter the tournament you need to have 6,000+ Staked SPS and 44,174+ power.

In this tournament, Alpha, Beta, Untamed, Chaos and Rebellion sets, that is, all sets can be used.

This tournament is the Bronze League, Anytime tournament and the top 30% will advance to the second round. And when you start a battle you will have 4 minutes and 20 seconds to send your team and if you do not send your team within this time you will be considered as surrendered, meaning you will lose the battle.

The picture above lists the prizes that will be distributed according to the ranking. If I sent my teams, I have always been in the top 128 in tournaments in the Novice, Bronze and Silver Leagues so far, so I definitely got one of the rewards.

Entry fees for the tournament are written on the tournaments page and detail page. The entry fee for this tournament is 100 DEC. By the way, when we roughly calculate, the lowest prize of 33.6 SPS is more than 3 times the tournament entry fee of 100 DEC, so even if you rank 128th, you will have won more than 3 times what you paid. Dark Energy Crystals (DEC) is currently trading at around $0.00082, while Splintershards (SPS) is currently trading at around $0.00833. That's why I love these types of tournaments. Frankly, tournaments are more than just rewards for me. First of all, they are both fun and educational, and best of all, it's great to get rewarded while having fun.

By the way, the entry fees for each game format are based on your leaderboard league at the time of sign-up, so it may vary depending on your leaderboard league. This prevents new and inexperienced players entering lower league tournaments from being crushed by experienced players in higher leagues.

I just paid 100 DEC and participated in the "Gauntlet Wild Bronze Invitational" tournament. And after you enter a tournament you will see the page above. Additionally, you can view registered players on the Battles page.

I think tournaments are one of the most enjoyable parts of the Splinterlands, they are both fun and rewarding. Also, tournaments play an important role in the growth of my account, I sometimes buy cards with my rewards, but I mostly stake the SPS rewards I receive, and our staked SPS plays an important role in increasing the rewards we earn in ranked battles, so I care very much about increasing my SPS in the stake even more. You can spend the rewards you receive as you wish, but if you are a new player, I recommend that you grow your account and make powerful your team even more, because as you make powerful your team, you open the way to earn more rewards.

In short, I really enjoy playing Splinterlands and I really care about entering its tournaments. And I have no doubt that as you play it, you will become addicted to it like me. If you haven't joined this fascinating world yet, I think you're missing out and I highly recommend you consider joining Splinterlands.

If you have any questions about Splinterlands and tournaments, please feel free to ask and I'll be happy to answer them.
