Splinterlands 🐉| Winning Brawl Matches with Halfling Refugee!

This week, we're hosting the Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge, a somewhat mystical event focusing on "Hidden Gems." Within an ecosystem that involves NFT card games and a GameFi component with Lands and Tokens, some may be unsure about what these Hidden Gems could be. This theme is precisely about finding some of the more hidden aspects of the game—a tip, strategy, or card that is certainly very useful, but that few people end up knowing about because they are Hidden Gems.

So, let's analyze a Brawl match that featured a "Hidden Gems" card and the highlight of the match was the neutral unit Halfling Refugee, a card with incredible stats, but one that I don't see many players talking about. Interestingly, this card enables a very unique and powerful strategy in Brawls, as it can utilize some key cards from the Gladiators collection. Match Strategy and Details!

Let's start with the context of the match and then we'll talk about the strategy used. This was a Brawls match – a competition between guilds – in which the available mana pool of 48 was relatively high, allowing for the use of some very costly cards. The four elements available in this match were Fire, Earth, Life, and Death. Finally, the rulesets for the match included Holy Protection, which granted a divine shield to all units, blocking one attack. Next, Lost Legendaries prevented the use of legendary units, and finally, Fog of War prevented units from using Sneak, Snipe, and Opportunity.

The strategy consists of placing the Halfling Refugee in first position, which costs little mana and is a great tank. With the remaining mana, we can place a strong Gladiator monster like Marisol Contuma and add some support cards like Meriput Magician to heal the tank and then the ranged unit, and Janni Rebel, who will grant +1 melee damage to allies. We also use Anachron Bolter to remove 1 ranged damage if the opponent uses it, but also to protect the backline, as it has 6 HP and 1 Shield.

In this battle, the choice was Marisol Contuma with 4 damage, 8 HP, 4 shield, and 5 speed, but I also think it's interesting to mention that this strategy also works with another unit with Reach Gladiator. Another example is in the water element, using the Halfling as a tank and the Relenor Cleaver as the second unit, basically guaranteeing the same benefits of the strategy.

Halfling Refugee The GEM!

In this scenario, I chose to use my Halfling Refugee + Reach strategy, which consists of saving mana by using the Halfling Refugee, which costs only 1 mana and has great stats like 2 melee damage, 6 HP, and 3 speed. With the extra mana left over from not using a high-mana-cost tank, I used it on the second-position off-tank, which is usually a card from the Gladiators set with reach. Very strong, with lots of HP, high speed and shield, high damage, and Bloodlust.

The ability to save mana, have great stats, and not be talked about much would already be enough to make the Halfling Refugee a great candidate for the "Hidden Gems" category of this event's theme. However, we go further, presenting a winning strategy that utilizes the Halfling Refugee, not to mention that at level 3 this unit gains the Heal ability, allowing it to survive a little longer against opponents. It's really hard to find a card with a stat kit and abilities for this same mana cost, not to mention that it's a well-traded card on the marketplaces, currently costing $2,176 on Low Buy. The best part is that for Splinterlands players, it's a card you can get with Glint without spending a dime!

O interessante é que essa carta possibilita uma estratégia muito única e forte nos brawls, por conseguir utilizar algumas cartas chave da coleção gladiators. Estratégia e Detalhes da Partida!

Vamos começar com o contexto da partida e em seguida iremos falar sobre a estratégia utilizada. Essa foi uma partida do Brawls - competição entre guildas - em que a quantidade de mana disponível de 48 era relativamente alta, permitindo utilizar algumas cartas com custo bem elevado. Os elementos disponíveis nessa partida foram 4: Fogo, Terra, Life e Death. Por fim, como rulesets da partida tivemos a Holy Protection que garantie um escudo divino à todas as unidade, bloqueando um ataque. Em seguida a Lost Legendaries que impede o uso de unidades lendárias e por fim a Fog of War que bloqueia o uso de Sneak, Snipe e Opportunity pelas unidades.

A estratégia consiste em colocar na primeira posição o Halfling Refugee, que custa pouca mana e é um ótimo tank. Com a mana que sobra colocar um monstro forte Gladiador como Marisol Contuma e adicionar algumas cartas suportes como Meriput Magician para curar o tank e posteriormente a unidade com reach e a Janni Rebel que vai garantir +1 de dano melee para os aliados. Além disso, usamos a Anachron Bolter para retirar 1 de dano ranged caso o oponente usasse, mas também para proteger a backline já que tem 6 de HP e 1 de Shield.

Nessa batalha a escolha foi a Marisol Contuma com 4 de dano, 8 de HP, 4 de shield e 5 de speed, mas eu também acho interessante mencionar que essa estratégia também funciona com outra unidade com Reach Gladiator. Um outro exemplo é no elemento água, utilizar o Halfling como tank e o Relenor Cleaver como segunda unidade, garantindo basicamente os mesmo benefícios da estratégia.

Halfling Refugee The GEM!

Nesse cenário, a escolha foi utilizar a minha estratégia de Halfling Refugee + Reach, que consiste em economizar mana utilizando o Halfling Refugee, que custa apenas 1 de mana e tem ótimos status como 2 de dano melee, 6 de HP e 3 de speed e com essa mana extra que sobra por não utilizar um tank de alto custo de mana, usar no off-tank de segunda posição que geralmente é uma carta da coleção gladiators com reach, que são cartas muitos fortes, com muito HP, alta velocidade e shield, com um dano elevado e com Bloodlust.

A capacidade de economizar mana, ter ótimos status e não ser tão comentado já seria o suficiente para fazer com que o Halfling Refugee fosse um ótimo candidato para a categoria “Hidden Gems” do tema desse evento. Entretanto, vamos além, apresentando uma estratégia vitoriosa que utiliza o Halfling Refugee, sem contar que já no nível 3 essa unidade recebe a habilidade de Heal, fazendo com que sobreviva um pouco mais de tempo contra os oponente. É realmente dificil encontrar uma carta com um kit de status e habilidades por esse mesmo custo de mana, sem falar que é uma carta bem negociada nos marketplaces, custando atualmente $2,176 no Low Buy. O melhor é que para quem joga o Splinterlands é uma carta que você pode conseguir com Glint sem precisar gastar!
