Hello everyone, and welcome back to my Splinterlands blog, it's a Saturday evening already and it usually doesn't happen I'm this late with making my second post to participate in this weeks Community Engagement Challenge but this weeks it's a special new theme: Ruleset Rumble which is a bit similar as the Battle Mage Secrets challenges we used to have back in the day, this requires a cool rule set to make a post about and because I didn't want to dive in to my list of cool battles I had saved because I didn't save them on specific rulesets, a new battle had to be fought I could make a cool post about, and then this happened...
And that wasn't all.. it kept going and going soooo I figured I needed to take my loss and stop trying to push things, apparently I did something to offend the Gods of Praetoria and now I was being punished, so I stopped playing and focused on making my new cycling post I still had planned but didn't find the time for...
So, here we are, about ten hours later and apparently, the Gods of Praetoria are very fast in forgiving or they are just old and forgot why they were mad in the first place, it's a bit like myself actually, I can't stay mad for very long, it's a waste of time and energy but I'm digressing here...
Bottom line is: I am allowed to win again!
So, this weeks challenge is a cool new theme:
🧪 Theme: Ruleset Rumble
Every seasoned battlemage knows: in Splinterlands, rulesets change everything. This week’s Community Engagement Challenge invites you to dive deep into your favorite—or most feared—rulesets and show how you adapt, counter, and conquer when chaos hits the battlefield!
🔥 This Week’s Theme: Ruleset Rumble
Whether it’s Fog of War, Little League, or Up Close & Personal, we want to see how you build teams to survive (and thrive) in tricky conditions.
To find out how you can participate in the challenge yourself, check out the official Splinterlands post here.
The combination of different rule sets is what makes the game fun, and complex but that's fun... at least it is for me, Bronze is too boring with a lot of standard rule sets, I was wondering which rule set I would pick to make a post about and it wasn't even intentional to pick one that was mentioned in the challenge: Up Close and Personal, but actually it's about the other one:
Sooo.. I knew this was going to be a fun one so I immediately started screen-shotting my progress and because I'm a daily player and the player pool isn't that big at the level I am playing, I happen to see many players and even remember what level they play, @enzo87 has a max deck and usually they kick my ass with it, but every now and then I am able to surprise both of us, and win the battle, so let's try - this is going to be a fun one!
Nice rule set combo, right!? 😁
So I was thinking about ignoring the ability to bring a Gladiator to the fight, and just got with Elias / Commander Slade because he is protected from the thorns the Briar Patch rule set brings, but Elias has a awesome synergy with Relenor Cleaver, so I figured every kill it makes, it gets 1 armor so is shielded from the thorns, and Elias giving him Armored Strike with Piercing, not a lot of units can survive these hits...
I actually had 2 mana left I was able to use, but I deliberately choose NOT to put two low HP units in my team because I didn't want to risk giving an enemy Gladiator fire to gear up his Bloodlust and kick my ass with it.. less is more sometimes! 😉
So, just some logical thinking, there aren't a lot of options, even when all splinters are open to be chosen from, not many melee Gladiators can survive the thorns so Katrelba is probably not an option, that leaves no Gladiator at all, but a unit with deflect, like Commander Slade as the most probable option... and its speed with Dodge will definitely be a problem for my slow Cleaver, so let's hope my opponent doesn't pick Slade...
A enemy Relenor Cleaver could be very possible but I don't think I ever see Enzo playing legendary summoners so in that case I would still have the advantage with Armored Strike.... The other option is Quora, would that be a problem?
I don't think so, the 7 HP means it can survive three rounds of magic attack while his own armor will protect him well against other optional units, and at least at the start of the battle my Cleaver is protected by the Refugee.
Yep, it's Immunity Quora! A damn fine card I am still one or two copies short of to get it to level 3 myself, let's quickly check how the battle will go!
Well... pay attention because this won't last long boys and girls!
Round 1: Whoah! my Cleaver took out the first two units, protecting Quora so that indeed went very fast, gearing up it's bloodlust!
Round 2: And oops! Before Quora could even attack in round two, she's killed because my Cleaver is now faster with the bloodlust, so it's able to attack first.
Bye Quora, it was a blast!
You can watch the battle unfold for yourself here.
It's over already, so soon!?

That is a great line up. it's also neat seeing the higher level of units ready to fight. And always good to see Quora go down with how often I've lost to her.
