Hey everyone! It's time to make another Splinterlands blog post for this weeks Splinterlands Social Media Challenge, it's purpose is to spread out the word about this amazing game and to earn with our blog posts so we can invest in our Splinterlands as well as Hive accounts.

This weeks challenge is the same as last weeks:

And it's good, because I've been planning to make a post about this for a week now, and it started with a conversation I had on Discord with one of the newer players I've been guiding...

So, I of course answered this question in a short form, but let's make a detailed post about this because it's going to stir things up REAL good!

Splinterlands Sets

So, the Splinterlands team releases a new set of cards about once every 12 to 18 months, different sets have different abilities, strengths and weaknesses, every set has it's own distinctive look so you can recognize them, but for new players however, sets are something they don't understand, it was the same when I started because I didn't understand the importance of the different sets, but they are important, let me explain!

Since the launch of the game we've had different sets:

• Alpha / Beta
• Untamed (with the mini set Dice)
• Chaos Legion (with the mini set Riftwatchers)
• Rebellion

So some sets have a separate mini set and some don't, it's nothing to be worried about as long as you know which mini set belong to which main set, I made a picture how to recognize each set:

Modern and Wild League, the difference.

Modern League is where new players end up, here, only the latest two sets are allowed to be played, so, for now this is Chaos Legion and Rebellion while in Wild League ALL sets are allowed, more cards meaning more options, different abilities with different strategies so this league is meant to be for the older players, giving value to their older cards, this league is not for beginners because it can be hard with so many options.

To keep the game sustainable, Wild League requires a pass to be bought every season of 2000 DEC, at this moment that's around $1.40 with this, massive bot farms are discouraged to be a drain on the economy and extract value for ever with a one time purchase of cards.

I would like to see a lower priced wild pass for lower league play in Wild but that's another story

Important note: in Modern automated play (the use of a bot) is strictly prohibited by the terms of service while this is still allowed in Wild.

Why is this important?

This is important because most new players start their Splinterlands career in Modern League where only the latest two sets are allowed to be played, so, for now this is Chaos Legion and Rebellion.

Chaos Legion is considered a VERY cheap set and costs about $740 for a complete max set, in comparison, a max Rebellion set is around $6500!

Because of this, Modern at the moment is very top heavy, meaning 75% of all players have max level summoners and somewhere close to max level cards, so most battles are being played in high Gold, Diamond and Champion Leagues but this is not how it was meant to be, most players should be around Silver and Gold.

The arrival of a new set

In about two months, in April 2025 a new set is going in to pre-sale, called Conclave Arcana and it will be launched in the end of April as of now. With the arrival of a new set in Modern League, this means the oldest of the two sets currently in Modern is being rotated out and pushed to modern.

Meaning you can't play with Chaos Legion cards in the Modern League anymore as soon as Conclave Arcana goes live!

Huge price difference

Look at the price difference for legendary summoners, the bottleneck for all accounts are summoners of course because you need them to play your cards at the appropriate levels, comparing Chaos Legion:

Start planning!

So, hopefully you already knew about this, but if not, this post is for you!
Start planning what you will do after the launch of Conclave Arcana.

For me personally this will have big consequences, I am playing two accounts now, at Gold and Diamond level so I have decided my account with the max level summoners will go to the Wild League, and probably will be played by a bot service.

Because of the huge difference in sets costs, 90% of the cards I currently see in Modern League are Chaos Legion, this includes myself, it's a cheap way to be able to play at a very high level, but this will change!

My other account will stay in Modern, meaning I need to prepare and plan ahead!

I have already started buying a Silver level Rebellion set, meaning I will drop down from high Gold and low Diamond level play to Silver again, simply because the new sets are far more expensive and I'm sure I won't be the only one with this 'problem'.

In my opinion, this isn't a problem at all, actually I'm pretty excited about the change, more players in lower levels will be great again and I'm curious to see how this will all play out, will many players shift over to Wild League with their existing decks so there will be less players in Modern after the change, meaning the same amount of SPS prize pool will be shared among less players?

When you're an experienced player, be sure to mention this change to players new to the game, all information is simply overwhelming and they just might miss the importance of this upcoming change.
