Splinterlands Withered Old Sage | The King of Magic Monsters
Hello my fellow Splinterlands Warriors,
Welcome back to another awesome Splinterlands post, and I hope all of you are doing pretty great in your lives and enjoying a thrilling and energetic day with your family and friends. If you are also connected with Splinterlands like me, then I also hope your ranked journey has started already and been going smoothly this season. I also guess you are steadily climbing the trophy ladder with more and more wins while collecting better rewards every single day. Whether your seasonal target is simply reaching a higher league tier and collecting more reward chests, or competing for a place on the top champion leaderboard, I sincerely wish all of you the very best. Now, looking at the current ranked season, there are still around 9 days and 18 hours remaining before it comes to an end. There is still plenty of time left for all of us to continue experimenting with different lineups, earn more seasonal rewards, and hopefully achieve our desired trophy milestones before the season finally resets.
Now, talking about my own progress in the Frontier mode in this game, I am currently battling in the highest Gold I league with 3,880 trophies. As always, my primary objective remains reaching the 4,200 trophy milestone first. Once I successfully reach that mark, I will once again try to climb toward the leaderboard if I still have enough Battle Energy and free time available before the season ends. Looking at the weekly raffle progress, I currently have only 9 raffle entries collected so far. With around 5 days and 17 hours remaining before this week's raffle comes to an end, my target is once again somewhere between 57 and 60 entries. There is still plenty of time left, so I am hoping to reach that goal comfortably over the next few days.
Today's Frontier Daily Wheel outcome was an extremely rewarding one for me. This time I was lucky enough to receive an amazing reward of 1,000 Sparks together with another 200 Sparks from my daily 20% streak bonus. It has been quite some time since I last received such a valuable reward from the wheel, so naturally I am very happy.and glad that I have now successfully maintained my 64-day login streak. Thanks to today's rewards, my total Sparks balance has increased to an impressive 24,526 Sparks.
Apart from that, today I also opened 6 Foundation Packs that I earned from the last two days' daily missions. Surprisingly, the results turned out to be excellent despite opening only six packs. I managed to pull 1 Legendary card, 2 Epic cards, 2 Gold Foil Rare cards, and another 7 Rare cards including 2 Archons. Besides those, I also received 1 Gold Foil Common card while the remaining cards were all regular Common cards.
Withered Old Sage
Now moving on to the main topic and let me introduce another powerful reward card from the newest Conclave Arcana Reward edition. As you have already seen in the title and thumbnail above, today we will be taking a closer look at the Withered Old Sage. So, let's take a deep dive without further ado.
The Withered Old Sage is a monster type card that was first seen in the game with the launch of the newest Conclave Arcana Reward card set. Just like the other reward monsters from this edition, players can obtain this card completely free by actively playing ranked battles, earning glint and opening reward chests and cards from reward shop throughout every season. This monster belongs to the Fire element and comes from the Drakoshan bloodline. It is a Rare monster card, meaning we need a total of 115 CC cards to upgrade it to its maximum level. The Withered Old Sage costs only 6 mana to deploy, making it an excellent choice for medium to high mana limit battles. This monster uses Magic attacks, allowing it to directly damage enemy Health while ignoring Armor unless some abilities interfere. At maximum level, it unlocks three powerful abilities that greatly improve both its survive ability and battle performance. Let us now take a closer look at its stats and abilities across different leagues.
BRONZE
At Level 2, the Withered Old Sage possesses a decent stats of 2 Magic attack, 2 Speed, 1 Armor, and 2 Health. Even at this level, it already gains its first ability called Void.
VOID – Receives 50% less damage from Magic attacks (rounded up), while Magic attacks with only 1 power deal no damage at all.
SILVER
At Level 4, the monster improves to 3 Magic attack while maintaining 2 Speed and 1 Armor. Its Health also increases to 3, making it a little more durable during battle. Although it does not unlock a new ability at this level, the increase in Magic damage makes it a much stronger offensive threat.
GOLD
At Level 6, the Withered Old Sage continues to improve with 3 Magic attack, 3 Speed, 2 Armor, and 4 Health. At this stage, it unlocks its second ability called Spite.
SPITE – When defeated, this monster has a 100% chance to immediately perform one final counterattack.
DIAMOND / CHAMPION
Finally when this card reaches its final stage of Level 8, the Withered Old Sage unlocks its maximum form with 3 Magic attack, 4 Speed, 3 Armor, and 5 Health. At maximum level, it unlocks its final ability called Resurgence as well.
RESURGENCE – Self-resurrects once per battle with 100% Health and Armor. All magic debuffs are removed, all magic buffs are reapplied, skips its turn, and deals 1 Physical damage to all enemy units.
Last but not least, I think the Withered Old Sage is one of the strongest reward magic monsters introduced so far. The very first thing that impressed me is its excellent balance between offense and survivability. For only 6 mana, this monster provides heavy Magic damage while also possessing a respectable combination of Armor, Health, and Speed at higher levels. Since Magic attacks directly damage enemy Health, it can constantly pressure opposing monsters without worrying too much about their Armor. Now, another feature that I really like is the Void ability. This single ability immediately turns the Withered Old Sage into an excellent counter against magic-heavy lineups. It cuts incoming Magic damage by half, and even completely ignores Magic attacks with only 1 attack power. Against teams that rely heavily on Magic monsters, this ability alone can make a significant difference. Moving on, the Spite ability also deserves plenty of appreciation I think. Because even after this monster is defeated, it still gets one final opportunity to contribute to the battle by launching a guaranteed counterattack. In many situations, that final attack can finish off a weakened enemy monster or create an opening for the rest of your team. Finally, I believe the Resurgence ability is what truly elevates this monster to another level. Instead of simply resurrecting with minimal Health, it comes back with full Health and full Armor while removing all magic debuffs and restoring any positive magic buffs it previously had. On top of that, it also deals 1 Physical damage to every enemy unit when it returns to the battlefield. Overall, I believe the Withered Old Sage is an outstanding reward monster that combines powerful Magic damage, excellent survivability, strong anti-magic capabilities, and one of the most valuable resurrection abilities available in the game. It is definitely a monster worth collecting and upgrading for future ranked battles.
