Splinterlands Stonebind Matron | A Magic Thrower with Opportunity

Kaylia Silverleaf.jpg

Hello my fellow Splinterlands Warriors,

Welcome back to another awesome Splinterlands post, and I guess you all are doing absolutely great in your lives and enjoying an energetic day with your loved ones. If you are also engaging with Splinterlands regularly like me, then I hope the new ranked season has started smoothly for all of you and that you are already making good progress on the trophy ladder. The current ranked season still has around 12 days and 6 hours remaining before it comes to an end, which means we have plenty of time left to grind battles, collect rewards, and work toward our season goals. So whether you are aiming for a particular league tier, chasing valuable season rewards, or preparing for a serious leaderboard push, I wish you all the very best in the remaining days of the season.

Now, talking about my own progress in the Frontier mode, I am currently battling in the Gold I league with 2,860 trophies. As usual, my first objective is to reach the 4,200 trophy milestone, and after reaching that point, I will see whether I can continue pushing toward the leaderboard. The season is still in its early stages, so I am not putting too much pressure on myself right now and will try to climb steadily over the coming days. Looking at the weekly raffle progress, I currently have 21 raffle entries collected. There are around 5 days and 5 hours remaining before the raffle ends, and this time I am aiming to collect somewhere between 54 and 57 entries. Hopefully, I will have enough Battle Energy and time to reach that target.

Today's Frontier Daily Wheel brought some very exciting progress for my Sparks collection. Today marks my 93rd consecutive daily streak, and I received a huge 20K bonus Sparks reward for reaching Tier IV by entering the 91st streak day. This also means that from now on, I will receive a 25% bonus on my daily Sparks rewards while staying in Tier IV, which is definitely a very nice upgrade. Anyways, today's regular reward was 1,000 Sparks along with another 250 bonus Sparks, bringing my current total Sparks balance to 23,059. Reaching Tier IV feels like another important milestone in my Frontier journey, and now I am looking forward to collecting Sparks even faster with the additional 25% bonus.

Apart from that, today I also opened 11 Foundation Packs that I earned from the last four days' rewards, and this was actually a very good opening. I managed to pull 3 Legendary cards, 1 Epic card, 1 Gold Foil Rare card, and another 13 Rare cards, including 3 Archons. I also received 2 Gold Foil Common cards, while the remaining cards were regular Common cards. Getting three Legendary cards from only eleven packs is definitely a great outcome, so I am quite happy with today's pack opening. Hopefully, some of these cards will become useful additions to my collection in upcoming battles.

Stonebind Matron

Now moving on to today's featured monster, let us take a closer look at another interesting monster from the newest Conclave Arcana Reward card set. As you have already seen in the title and thumbnail above, today we will be discussing the Stonebind Matron. So, if you are interested in knowing more about this card, then let's take a deep dive without any further ado.

The Stonebind Matron is a monster type card that was first seen in the game with the launch of the newest Conclave Arcana Reward card set. This monster belongs to the Earth element and comes from the Canisan bloodline. It is classified as a Common monster card. Stonebind Matron costs 8 mana to deploy and uses Magic attacks, allowing it to deal direct damage to enemy Health. At maximum level, this monster possesses three different abilities, combining offensive targeting with backline healing and a dangerous effect after its defeat. Let us now take a closer look at its stats and abilities across different leagues.

BRONZE

At Level 3, Stonebind Matron possesses 2 Magic attack, 5 Speed, and 5 Health. Even at its initial level, it already gains its first ability called Opportunity that targets the enemy unit with the least Health.

OPPORTUNITY – Targets the enemy unit with the least Health.

SILVER

At Level 5, Stonebind Matron maintains 2 Magic attack and 5 Speed while improving its Health to 6. At this level, it unlocks another useful ability called Triage that restores Health to the most damaged allied backline unit every round.

TRIAGE – Each round, restores 1/3rd of the maximum Health, rounded down, to the allied backline unit that has taken the most damage.

GOLD

At Level 8, Stonebind Matron improves to 3 Magic attack, 6 Speed, and 7 Health. Although it does not gain a new ability at this stage, the additional Magic damage, Speed, and Health make it a much stronger attacker while its existing Opportunity and Triage abilities continue providing offensive and defensive utility to the team.

DIAMOND / CHAMPION

At Level 10, Stonebind Matron reaches its maximum form with 3 Magic attack, 6 Speed, and 8 Health. At maximum level, it unlocks its final ability called Poison Burst, which can spread Poison to multiple enemy units after this monster is defeated.

POISON BURST – When defeated, has a 100% chance to apply Poisoned to the attacker and a 50% chance to apply Poisoned to units adjacent to the attacker. Poisoned units lose 2 Health at the beginning of each round.

I think Stonebind Matron is a very interesting Common monster because its abilities allow it to remain useful throughout the entire battle. The 8 mana cost may initially feel a little high, but it comes with a strong combination of Magic attack, high Speed, and a large Health pool. At higher levels, reaching 3 Magic attack with 6 Speed and 8 Health gives it both offensive power and decent survivability.

The Opportunity ability is one of the main reasons why this monster can be dangerous. Instead of simply attacking the enemy front position, it targets the enemy monster with the lowest Health. Since Stonebind Matron uses Magic attacks, that damage goes directly toward enemy Health, allowing it to finish weakened monsters more quickly. This can become particularly useful when the enemy lineup has fragile backline attackers that are already damaged.

Then we have Triage, which adds another important layer of utility. Every round, this ability restores one-third of the maximum Health of the most damaged allied backline unit. This means Stonebind Matron is not only helping your team by attacking enemy monsters but is also keeping your own backline alive. If you are using several valuable attackers behind your frontline, Triage can help them survive longer and continue contributing to the battle.

Finally, Poison Burst is another very interesting ability that makes Stonebind Matron dangerous even after it is defeated. The monster that defeats it has a guaranteed chance to become Poisoned, while the enemy units standing adjacent to that attacker also have a 50% chance of receiving Poison. Since Poisoned monsters lose 2 Health at the beginning of every round, this can potentially spread damage across multiple enemy units. In the right situation, defeating Stonebind Matron could actually create another problem for your opponent.

Overall, I think Stonebind Matron is a solid and versatile Magic monster. It has good offensive statistics, high Speed, a useful Opportunity ability for targeting weak enemies, and Triage for supporting damaged backline allies. Even after it gets defeated, Poison Burst can continue affecting the enemy team by spreading Poison. So, although the 8 mana cost is not particularly low, I think the combination of attack power, Speed, Health, healing support, and Poison utility gives Stonebind Matron enough value to justify experimenting with it in different battle situations.

I don't really see this card used very often in Modern Champion. I used to use it more before I have leveled up my non-rewards cards...
