Yaba's Pickle: Seriously, It’s Not a Toy!

Hello Splinterlands warriors and welcome back to my blog!

Yaba's Pickle is a four mana Water defensive and debuff unit that starts with zero attack but can become a functional attacker through Weapons Training. Its has humorous connection to Splinterlands co-founder, Yabapmatt that makes it one of the more unusual collectible cards in Splinterlands.

Lore

Yabanius the Architect is caught secretly experimenting with a pickle dressed in a piece of his purple robe. He insists that it is an “experimental construct” designed as a stealth and reconnaissance device for infiltrating the Conclave Arcana. Riklauniman is amused and skeptical when the pickle suddenly hops and dances on the workbench, dubbing it a “dancing pickle.” Embarrassed but undeterred, Yabanius continues working on his creation and considers giving it a tiny hat.

Stats and Abilities

Yaba's Pickle is a low mana, none attack card that has good defensive stats and debuff abilities. At maximum level, it has four armor, seven health and two speed at only four mana cost. It has four abilities that is unusual for a common card. It has Dodge giving it a chance to evade physical attacks. Shield decreases the physical attacks received. It can slow down the enemy team and can also heal itself.

The interesting part is that having no attack isn't necessarily a weakness. Yaba's Pickle can become surprisingly useful when paired with Weapons Training, allowing another unit to give it an attack. This makes it particularly interesting in low-mana battles and formations built around defensive positioning.

In the featured battle, I will show how Weapons Training transformed Yaba's Pickle into an offensive beast having dual attacks.

Featured Battle

In this thirty nine mana battle, I had Yaba's Pickle in the middle in between two units with Weapons Training ability. This gave Yaba's Pickle three magic and three melee attacks making him an offensive beast. The ruleset included Global Warming so I made sure to use high health units and one of them had Painforge ability to increase his power from the burning effect.

The enemy had a legendary archon and a couple of legendary cards in his line up. This included Djinn Oshannus who is a legendary magic tank from the Chaos Legion set. He also had a couple of none attack units and could use a card with Weapons Training ability. Even though the enemy had a legendary archon against my Frontier archon, my units had the better synergy that took advantage of the archon's buffs and the ruleset.
