Among the Frontier archons, Water is probably the strongest. She provides boost to magic units and increase their attacks. The boost is simple but incredibly effective. Which is why we often see the Water archon in Modern battles. Not only is she viable in Modern but can also compete even against legendary archons who provide more boosts and abilities.

In today's post, I'll show a sample battle where a team led by Marlai Singariel was able to beat one of the best archons in Modern mode, Eternal Tofu. The team even had legendary cards Dar Gottem Gearnut and Nessa.

Featured Battle

In this battle, player owjay28 had Marlai Singariel leading an all magic team. He had a strong anti magic tank Thanalorian Scion who has a high armor stat. Then, his magic attackers were all strong damage dealers. Usually, strong attack stats are offset by a decrease in other stats like health and speed making magic attackers glass cannons and easy to defeat. However, the ruleset included Equalizer that offset one of magic units weaknesses.

The enemy had a strong team led by Eternal Tofu. He provided two health and Thorns ability to the team. He also granted the Divine Shield and Corrosive Ward to three units. Among his legendary cards was the beefy Dar Gottem Gearnut who boasts of twenty health.

However, most of his advantages were offset because of the ruleset and the choice of units by owjay28. First, Corrosive Ward works against melee attackers which owjay28 didn't use. Second, Dar Gottem Gearnut's health was mirrored by all units because of the Equalizer ruleset. Third, as the units all have twenty health, the advantage in attacking power is more pronounced giving the advantage of battle to owjay28's team.

Final Thoughts

The battle shows that even lowly Frontier archons can win against meta legendary archons given the right rulesets. Maximizing the archon's buffs, using the right units for the ruleset will offset the advantages of expensive cards. This is what makes Splinterlands a fun game to play. The better strategy and combos will win against strong individual cards.
