Hello Splinterlands summoners and welcome back to my blog!
I just unlocked Gold I League in Modern. Going to a higher league, I expect my SPS rewards earned per win to increase. I was also rewarded with advancement chests that contained cards, among others. Advancing in leagues as you win more battles is part of the fun I find in playing Splinterlands.

I got mostly common and rare cards. There were other items such as potions, energy and scrolls. Using the scrolls can unlock cards enabling them to be transferred or sold.

One rare card was able to upgrade to level four. Dragonfang Lancer gained a new ability. Reflexes enables him to evade subsequent attacks from an attacker who damaged him. This makes him a great rear guard against Sneak attackers.
I have several fun battles on the way to reaching Gold I but I will feature one battle I liked most.

Commander Slade makes a comeback in this battle. I haven't used him much recently since the tank position was taken by Doomshield Warden or Blue Wyrm Travesty. They fit my new Water team better than Commander Slade. This time, the mana cost doesn't allow the use of both so I settled for Slade who served me well in the past. He's a strong tank both on offense and defense but has no defense against magic attacks. On second position I had the exclusive card Conjurer's Hubris who has a dual attack of melee and magic. I would like to upgrade him to level two but he's a bit expensive. Next is Arcane Skinwalker, a dependable magic damage dealer. His Shapeshift ability is no use in this battle though. In fourth position is Mindless Thrall who was the highest damage dealer in the team. In fifth is Torrent Sniper who also deals decent magic damage. Lastly, I had a three mana card Ujurak Elder. Aside from dealing damage, she also buffs the team with extra health with her Strengthen ability.
The enemy chose Dragon and Death splinters. This is a team I would have used myself. It's a combination of dual tank, magic damage dealers and strong range attackers. The enemy team is optimized for speed having two units with Swiftness ability. He also has the Meriput Slinger who slowed down my team with its ability.
The enemy team was faster but commander Slade was able to hold on because of his armor and high health stats. It allowed my magic damage dealers to defeat the tanks in time and get to the enemy's damage dealer units.
