Grimdave the Unbent, The Third Escalation Conflicts Archon

Hello Splinterlands warriors and welcome back to my blog!

Grimdave the Unbent is the third legendary archon introduced through the Escalation Conflicts. He can be obtained through the Escalation Conflict system, where players stake Escalation cards and packs in Mage Wagons to earn chances at exclusive Archon airdrops. In today's post, well dive into his lore, stats & abilities and discuss which rulesets and combos maximize his strengths.

Lore

Grimdave is an ancient conifite who has guarded the Pristine Northwest for four thousand years, embodying patience and resilience. When a mysterious blight began twisting time and corrupting the forests, he finally abandoned centuries of stillness after it reached his ancestors' sacred grove. Tearing his roots from the earth, Grimdave led the treefolk into battle, inspiring even those who had stood motionless for centuries to follow his march. Wielding scorching resin and relentless fire instead of gentle forest magic, he became the living wrath of the forest, proving that even the oldest and most patient guardian has a limit to what he will endure.

Stats & Abilities

Grimdave the Unbent is a three mana, legendary Water archon. He is of the Treefolk bloodline and grants the Incendiary debilitation to two units.

The Incendiary debilitation is ideally assigned to two enemy middle units who have two adjacent units beside them to spread the damage.

Combos

Treefolk Bloodline

Unfortunately there are not many Treefolks that can be summoned in addition to Water and Neutral units that can be included in teams lead by Grimdave.

Sylvaran Sentinel

Sylvaran Sentinel is an epic Earth card from the Conclave Arcana set. It deals good damage of four, has seven health and four speed. He debuffs the enemy's speed with slow and has a good support ability, Resurrect that may come crucial in battles.

Giam Root

Giam Root is the most modest of the treefolks inspite of being a legendary card. This is because he is from the Foundation set which is weaker compared to other sets. He does decent damage of two, has high health pool of eleven and has three speed. He increases the team's health with Strengthen ability.

Taark Nightbloom

Taark Nightbloom is an epic card and can be argued to be the best in this bunch. He deals three melee damage and has four speed. He has two armor and four health on defense. As for abilities, he has an interesting combination in his arsenal. He has Sneak which means he can attack with melee from any position. He has Shatter that can destroy the enemy target's armor while he also has Protect to grant armor to his allies. His most important ability is Flame fed which has interesting synergy with Grimdave's Incendiary debilitation. Flame fed makes one gain health instead of losing it from burning.

Lorn

Lorn is a legendary card and is probably the best in the group depending on the situation. He has better stats than Taark Nightbloom and probably the best abilities to combo with Grimdave's Incendiary debilitation should the player choose to apply it on his own team. First, Lorn has the Charge ability that allows him to attack with melee from any position like Taark. He has Relentless Strike that nullifies the target's Shield ability if it has it. Then he has Painforge that increases his power if he is burning. To counter the lost health from burning, he has Life Leech that increases his health when he does damage to his target.

Daigendark Hunter

Daigendark Hunter is from the older Rebellion set. He is a six mana rare card that deals four range damage, has seven health and four speed. He is best used against magic teams due to his Silence ability that debuffs magic attacks. He also has Sneak that targets the enemy's damage dealer units hiding in the back line.

The above cards are one possible team that can synergize well the Grimdave. I'm sure there are more out there and that's the fun in playing Splinterlands. We can discover units that work well with each other to defeat even stronger enemy units.
