The Collateral Damage ruleset is one of the newer Splinterlands rulesets. In this ruleset, every unit gains the Reckless ability. That means whenever a unit attacks, it also deals one true damage to each adjacent allied units. This self inflicted damage ignores Armor, Shield, Void and even Divine Shield, making positioning more important than usual.

There are two conflicting strategies to meet this ruleset. One is survival focused and one is concentrated on dealing damage. One such example of contrasting strategies is the battle I fought.

In this battle I chose Water. My strategy was to inflict as much damage as fast as possible before I die from the enemy damage and the ones I suffer from Reckless. My team was composed of magic units but in the frontline I had dual tanks Doomshield Warden and Blue Wyrm Travesty. Both deal huge melee damage. Blue Wyrm also has an ability that decrease the enemy's speed. In third position, I had ultra fast Mindless Thrall who deals four magic damage. In fourth is my trump card Torrent Sniper. His Painforge ability will increase his power the more he gets hurt by Reckless. In fifth is Mystic Scaleweaver who deals four magic damage and also decrease the enemy's speed with Slow ability. Lastly, I had Abyssal Elemental whose Resurgence ability may prove crutch in this survival ruleset.

The enemy chose a strategy focused on survival and took extra care to increase his health. First, his archon provides health to all allies. Then he has three units with Strenghten ability. That means his team has received four health stats from archon and units. Then, he has a unit that can self heal. In addition, his tank has anti magic and anti melee abilities. To complete the synergy of his team, he had a Taunt unit in the end. Clearly the strategies my enemy and I took were carefully thought out to meet the ruleset. It's just a matter of whose plan works better.

Luckily, the offensive strategy worked better and I was able to eliminate the enemy quickly with my advantage in speed and power.
