There are two cards that were recently released for Splinterlands' 8th anniversary, and they're absolutely insane on the battlefield. These cards are special, first of all, for the reason I mentioned earlier—the 8th anniversary—and second, because this is the first time cards with these abilities, and specifically with this synergy, have been created. That’s why I want to show you the best way to play with these cards, because they have enormous potential to create combinations that are usually hard to come by in battles at any level in the game.

That’s why today I want to explain how these two cards work together on the battlefield, how we should use them correctly to unlock their full potential—and, of course, try to win as many battles as possible. I’ll explain aspects and details such as how these cards’ positioning works, how to place them based on their stats and abilities, and I’ll also discuss the best modifiers to play with them, since the goal is to win, not lose.

So, if you want to know how “Tenrai and Suiko” work together on the battlefield, I want you to read all the way to the end so you can figure out the right way to use them for each situation, because—like any card combo—they aren’t an invincible duo, but they’re definitely pretty good.

Statistics, Abilities, and the Role of Each Card

In this section, I’ll go over each card in detail as usual, since before discussing how to use them, their synergies, and everything else I want to share with you—including their stats, abilities, and the exact role each card plays— as well as the category these cards might fall into, such as “Battlers,” which would be medium-to-high tier—referring, of course, to the amount of mana required to play them; in this case, battles ranging from 30 to 60 mana points.

But enough talk—let’s get to the stats for each card:

image.png

Tenrai (Neutral Epic — Dragonkin)

TENRAI.png

  • Statistics: This card has 3 Magic Attack points at its maximum level, plus 3 Shield points, 8 Health points, and an impressive speed that reaches 5 points at its highest level. It is a powerful and quite versatile card, as it belongs to the Neutral Splinter faction and also has 8 mana points.

  • Abilities:

    • Opportunity: With this ability, Tenrai attacks from any position, automatically targeting the enemy unit with the lowest Health on the battlefield—ideal for defeating cards that commonly provide “Support.”

    • Kindred Spirit: Giant Killer: At the start of each battle, it passively grants the Giant Killer ability to adjacent units that possess Kindred Will—in this case, its counterpart “Suiko.” In fact, the synergy and versatility of both cards revolve around this ability.

    • Bulwark: When placed in the first position—which is usually that of a “Tank”—it sacrifices 2 attack points in exchange for a massive bonus of +8 Health and +8 Armor; essentially, this is an ability that boosts “Defense.”

    • Relentless Strike: Its attacks deal true damage, ignoring abilities that typically mitigate damage—such as Shield, Void, or Forcefield—but with the added effect of dealing an extra +1 damage if the opponent possesses these defensive abilities.

image.png

Suiko (Legendary Neutral — Dragonkin)

SUIKO.png

  • Statistics: This card has a magic attack rating of 4, no Shield, 7 Health points, and a speed of 3. It is weaker than “Tenrai” in this regard but has some other attributes.

  • Abilities:

    • Kindred Will: Armored Strike (Level 1): At the start of battle, transfers the Armored Strike ability to adjacent units with Kindred Spirit—in this case, “Tenrai”—making this the primary synergy that can be applied.

    • True Strike: This ability ensures that every attack Suiko makes hits its target.

    • Affliction: When Suiko attacks, she has a 50% chance to inflict Affliction, completely blocking healing from the attack’s target—specifically, units with Heal, Tank Heal, and Triage.

    • Apex Strike: This ability allows Suiko’s attacks to target the opponent’s strongest card in terms of attack power.

The Master Synergy: The “Kindred” Exchange, Step by Step

The true power of this card lies in the combination and activation of its “Kindred Spirit” abilities—a brilliant mechanic that triggers a synergy capable of enhancing the utility of both cards on the battlefield. Here’s how it works:

image.png

Tenrai activa Kindred Spirit: Giant Killer sobre Suiko:

  • Since it is adjacent (next to) a card with Kindred Will, Tenrai grants Suiko Giant Killer; in short, they must be played next to each other.

  • What does Giant Killer do? It causes the unit to deal double damage (2x) when attacking enemy targets that cost 10 or more mana points—which are usually heavy “Tanks” with high health and strong “Attack” stats.

  • The Effect on Suiko: Suiko uses Apex Strike to target the enemy’s monster with the highest Attack stat. In the high-mana meta, the opponent’s most powerful attacker is almost always a giant monster costing 10+ mana, so thanks to this transfer, Suiko’s 4 magic points are instantly doubled to 8 points of magic damage, with a 50% chance to apply Affliction to prevent the enemy’s healers from saving it. In other words, a truly powerful attacker with the ability to limit the enemy’s healing.

image.png

Suiko activa Kindred Will: Armored Strike sobre Tenrai:

  • Since she is adjacent to a card with Kindred Spirit, Suiko grants Armored Strike to Tenrai, so the same effect occurs as with “Tenrai.”

  • What does Armored Strike do? If the unit has armor, it gains an additional melee physical attack equal to its remaining armor points, becoming even stronger thanks to its “Shield.”

  • The Effect on Tenrai: Tenrai has 3 shield points, and upon receiving Armored Strike, Tenrai performs two attacks per round: his original 3-point magic attack and an extra physical attack equal to his armor. This makes him incredibly lethal. Since Tenrai has Opportunity, both attacks target the opponent’s most fragile “Support” card in terms of hit points.

Final Thoughts

These cards together are truly lethal; I really like the synergy they have on the field, although they don’t represent all the possibilities available with them. In fact, there’s much more, since there are other types of lineups, combinations, and ways we can take advantage of their versatility and the fact that they’re together. Although these are special “Promotional” cards for the 8th anniversary, having them in your deck is essential for winning more battles.

See you on the "Battlefield"

image.png

Suiko (Legendaria Neutral — Dragonkin)

SUIKO.png

image.png

Suiko activa Kindred Will: Armored Strike sobre Tenrai:
