Why the Dwarf Build Is the Cheapest and Most Underrated Power in Splinterlands

I came back to Splinterlands after many years, with limited experience, and the first thing I realized was the need to study the market and the different leagues.
Starting from scratch, I wanted a build that fit my budget, could grow over time, and had relatively low DEC maintenance, while still allowing solid Glint and SPS farming.
I also designed this strategy around using mostly common cards, leveling them up gradually to rent out or to keep acquiring Archons, upgrading my deck step by step in a sustainable way.

That process naturally led me to the Dwarf Bloodline.
What makes this build stand out is how well it defends against common threats in lower leagues, especially magic-heavy compositions. Dwarves remove armor efficiently while dealing strong melee damage, allowing attacks to become partially or fully unblockable over time.
At the same time, the build doesn’t rely on a single damage type. By combining melee and ranged attacks, it stays flexible and avoids overexposure to specific counters. This also makes it safer against Thorns, a mechanic that can punish melee-focused teams heavily, especially when facing Eternal Tofu as an Archon.
Overall, this balance between pressure, flexibility, and survivability is what makes the Dwarf build so effective at low cost.

Below, I’ll present the seven selected cards, their roles, and the recommended order to play them.

Fithe Bladestone (Level 2)

We place Fithe Bladestone in the first position at level 2 as a core piece of the build. As an Archon, it provides the necessary consistency that ties the entire Dwarf Bloodline together.

Card 2 – First Position Tank

Grimbardun Fighter (Level 3)

Grimbardun Fighter is a neutral card, which already makes it valuable beyond this specific build, as it can be reused across many different lineups and strategies.
In the first position, it functions as a very strong tank thanks to Shield, significantly reducing incoming damage. At level 3, it also applies Corrode on every enemy attack, steadily stripping away the opponent’s armor and opening the door for sustained damage.
As part of the Dwarf Bloodline, Grimbardun gains 50% magic resistance, making it especially effective against the magic-heavy teams commonly found in lower leagues. This combination of durability, utility, and resistance turns it into an essential and extremely powerful core piece of the build.

Card 3 – Secondary Frontline Support

Grim Bonewhip (Level 3)

Grim Bonewhip is a fundamental card in this build. With Reach, it directly supports the main tank from the second position, adding consistent pressure while staying protected behind the frontline.
More importantly, it plays a key role in the armor-destruction core of this strategy. By helping to break down the opponent’s armor, it allows both melee and ranged attacks to become extremely effective, accelerating fights in your favor.
This card is absolutely essential and highly recommended. As part of the Conclave Rewards collection, it can be obtained through Glint, making it cheap, scalable, and perfect for gradual upgrades over time.

Card 4 – Low-Mana Frontline Tank
Ferrous Brewer (Level 1)

Ferrous Brewer is an epic neutral card with a very low mana cost, making it an essential option in matches with tight mana caps or limited energy rulesets.
Despite its cost, it performs extremely well as a small but efficient tank, delivering double melee attacks that apply solid pressure early in the fight. This makes it a reliable frontline choice when resources are limited.
Being a neutral card, it also fits into many other builds beyond Dwarves, increasing its long-term value. While it can be replaced by alternative options (covered later in this post), Ferrous Verewer remains a highly efficient and practical inclusion.

Card 5 – Flexible Damage Dealer
Bren Palesworn (Level 1)

Bren Palesworn is a legendary card that brings exceptional flexibility to the build, as it can deal both melee and ranged damage. This dual role makes it not only powerful here, but also highly useful across many other strategies and lineups.
Within this setup, both its physical and ranged attacks are significantly enhanced by the Bloodline, effectively turning it into a Dwarf unit with added magic resistance. Combined with its high speed and strong offensive output, Bren becomes a constant threat that is hard to ignore.
This card is a fundamental and irreplaceable addition, and a very smart choice to rent during this season if you want to push efficiency without overspending.

Card 6 – Melee Buffer Support
Portly Cannoneer (Level 2–3)

Portly Cannoneer is a ranged attacker with a very special role in this build. Thanks to Inspire, it increases the melee attack of all allied units by +1, making it extremely effective at reinforcing the frontline and accelerating damage output.
Depending on your budget, this card performs well at level 2 or level 3, while keeping a very low mana cost, which makes it easy to fit into multiple rulesets. Its ability to boost melee damage at the right moment can completely shift the tempo of a battle.
As part of the Dwarf Bloodline, it also benefits from magic resistance, reinforcing the overall survivability of the team. A fundamental support piece that maximizes the impact of your melee-focused strategy.

Card 7 – Final Position Closer
Swiftbeard Stout (Level 2)

Swiftbeard Stout is both the beginning and the end of this entire build—the piece that closes the circle. As a semi-tank with ranged attack, it plays a crucial strategic role rather than being just another damage dealer.
Placed in the last position, its Taunt ability pulls enemy focus away from the frontline, absorbing significant pressure while benefiting from the extra armor provided by the Archon. When it eventually falls, the Bloodline domination effect triggers, empowering the rest of the team.
This death effect dramatically boosts the power and speed of our ranged attackers, while also strengthening the overall tempo of the build. It’s a fundamental piece that protects, amplifies, and completes the strategy.
A true circle closer—and a perfect example of why this Dwarf Bloodline build is cheap, powerful, and extremely effective for Modern format in Splinterlands, 2026.

Final Thoughts and Recommendations

This Dwarf Bloodline build proves that you don’t need an expensive deck to be competitive in Modern. With smart card selection, low rental costs, and strong internal synergy, it offers consistency, scalability, and solid farming potential for both Glint and SPS.
My main recommendation is to start small and upgrade gradually. Focus on leveling commons and key epics first, and only invest more when your league progression and rewards justify it. This approach keeps DEC maintenance low while allowing steady long-term growth.
The build is especially effective in low to mid mana rulesets, where armor removal, magic resistance, and mixed damage types shine the most.
