Buns and Jolius Prepares for Battle
The tavern was quiet that evening.
It was raining outside so the tavern gave warmth to the two warriors playing a game of chess. At a corner table, Buns the Unseen leaned over chessboard, studying the position with a thoughtful face. Across from him sat Jolius Blast, also thinking.
Buns had Jolius's bishop in a trap so Jolius took a gamble and moved his bishop one square.
Buns raised an eyebrow. “That was your best move?”
Jolius grinned. “It's a gift, a free bishop. Take it!”
Buns smiled, noting that Jolius was bluffing again.
"I decline the offer. The bishop is not entirely free. Your rook will capture my bishop on e2."
After a while, Buns added.
"Do your remember our last battle against Aurendrak and Vaelok?”
Jolius's smile disappeared.
“Don't remind me.”
Buns laughed. “You attacked without thinking.”
“I had to! Those dragons won't stop trash talking.”
“I didn't know Vaelok had Taunt skill. You got provoked on your own.”
Jolius stared at the board. “Fine. Maybe I was a little too aggressive.”
“Just a little?”
Jolius looked up from the chessboard. “Well, how about you? You spent half the battle hiding behind me.”
“Strategic positioning,” Buns replied calmly.
“You call that strategy?”
“Yes, I have my Reach skill. And you have a lot of HP. You handle the front, I got your back. Besides, I silence their magic attacks.”
Jolius laughed. “Fair point.”
After a few more moves. More pieces were exchanged.
Jolius stared at the position, smiling.
“Lol, I'm up with material. Rooks are stronger than your knights.”
“That's true. But can you stop my pawns from promoting?”
Jolius's smile vanished. “Crap, I lose again!”
Buns smiled.
“Next time, try thinking before charging.”
Jolius grabbed his mug and laughed.
Outside, the rained continued to pour.
Somewhere beyond the tavern, Aurendrak and Vaelok were also preparing for their rematch. And this time, they will not lose.
