How much would it cost to join Splinterlands' LANDS mode in 2026?

Best regards Splinterlovers 💚

The land system in Splinterlands has many facets, and there are many ways to approach it; however, when you’re ready to dive in headfirst, you absolutely must either buy land that’s already been surveyed or, failing that, discover a PLOT—check which part of the vast world of PRAETORIA it’s located in, the type of terrain, its rarity, and so on. I explained this in the first two posts, which I’ll link to at the end of this introduction. But the point isn’t just to stick to the basics—we need to understand how much it actually costs to get into PRAETORIA.

That’s the goal of this post. However, the figures I’ll present here are approximations, since the actual prices of the items or assets I’ll discuss may vary, so you should only take them as a reference. Nevertheless, this will help you focus and get a rough idea of how much you need to fully dive into LANDS’ “Game Mode” and immerse yourself in the economy that is gradually becoming fully integrated with the rest of the formats and game modes.

So, if you want to know roughly how much you need to start with at least one PLOT, stick around until the end of this post, because you’ll see the calculations—though not exact, as I said, they’re close to what you actually need to get started.

The Structure of Initial Capital: DEC Collateral and Infrastructure

To get a plot of land up and running, you need certain elements. In fact, I mentioned many of them in the previous posts I shared in the introduction; however, I need to be more specific here because the idea is to provide approximate figures. To make things clearer, the capital must be allocated to four key categories, which are:

image.png

The 4 Core Categories

  • Land Cost (PLOT): Here you have to purchase the property on the market—at least that’s what I recommend for now, because it gives you more freedom to choose what you want, meaning the type of land: whether it’s natural, magical, and/or occupied. The price varies depending on which one you choose.

  • Energy Source: This is essential for powering the entire worksite; in short, it’s the power core that allows the PLOT to function and become operational. It costs 5,000 DEC/Credits, which is equivalent to approximately $2.96—since the DEC isn’t at its current exchange rate—but would generally be $5.

  • Construction Acceleration (Time Crystals): During the construction phase, about 2,000 DEC are needed, which is equivalent to $1.18 at the current market price or $2 if it were at par. This will help the construction finish instantly, at least during the initial phase of the project, as I mentioned earlier.

  • DEC Collateral (5 Workers – Labor Force): Each plot of land has 5 slots, and each slot requires DEC to operate. The maximum amount of DEC per plot is 10,000 DEC, for a total of 50,000 DEC, which at the current price would be $29.60 or about $50 if it were at parity.

Important Note: We should point out that the amount of DEC for each card does not necessarily have to be 10,000 DEC, as it depends on the card, its level, etc. However, this is not an expense, since it serves as a kind of “stake” that allows the workers to operate at full capacity. Nevertheless, it can be withdrawn at any time, so it is recoverable capital.

Initial Investment by Lot Type and Rarity

Something I didn't include in the previous section is the cost of the plots, so here I'll include that cost in the calculation so you can see the approximate total cost of activating 1 PLOT, regardless of the type of LAND. That's why, to proceed with the calculations and give you a few more options regarding the different types of land available, I'll show you some calculations based on the following:

  • Common Natural Plot
  • Rare Natural Plot
  • Common Magic Plot
  • Rare Magic Plot
  • Common Occupied Plot
  • Rare Occupied Plot

With that clarified, here are the calculations for each of these land types, which will give you an idea of how much is needed to activate a PLOT:

Costs and Investment by Plot Type

1.) Natural Common Land

  • Land: $8.00 USD
  • Infrastructure and Construction: $4.14 USD
  • Collateral (50,000 DEC Staked): $29.60 USD
  • Total Initial Investment: $41.74 USD ($65.00 USD at nominal parity)
  • Net Expenditure on Fixed Assets (Excluding Refundable Collateral): $12.14 USD

2.) Rare Natural Lot

  • Land: $20.00 USD
  • Infrastructure and Construction: $4.14 USD
  • Collateral (50,000 DEC Staked): $29.60 USD
  • Total Initial Investment: $53.74 USD ($77.00 USD at nominal parity)
  • Net Expenditure on Fixed Assets (Excluding Refundable Collateral): $24.14 USD

3.) Magical Communal Plot

  • Land: $30.00 USD
  • Infrastructure and Construction: $4.14 USD
  • Collateral (50,000 DEC Staked): $29.60 USD
  • Total Initial Investment: $63.74 USD ($87.00 USD at nominal parity)
  • Net Expenditure on Fixed Assets (Excluding Refundable Collateral): $34.14 USD

4.) Rare Magic Plot

  • Land: $55.00 USD
  • Infrastructure and Construction: $4.14 USD
  • Collateral (50,000 DEC Staked): $29.60 USD
  • Total Initial Investment: $88.74 USD ($112.00 USD at nominal parity)
  • Net Expenditure on Fixed Assets (Excluding Refundable Collateral): $59.14 USD

5.) Occupied Common Land

  • Land: $25.00 USD
  • Infrastructure and Construction: $4.14 USD
  • Collateral (50,000 DEC Staked): $29.60 USD
  • Total Initial Investment: $58.74 USD ($82.00 USD at nominal parity)
  • Net Expenditure on Fixed Assets (Excluding Refundable Collateral): $29.14 USD

6.) Rare Occupied Lot

  • Land: $45.00 USD
  • Infrastructure and Construction: $4.14 USD
  • Collateral (50,000 DEC Staked): $29.60 USD
  • Total Initial Investment: $78.74 USD ($102.00 USD at nominal parity)
  • Net Expenditure on Fixed Assets (Excluding Refundable Collateral): $49.14 USD

Conclusion

These are the approximate costs for setting up a complete PLOT, depending on the type of land we choose. Of course, as I mentioned, these are approximate figures and may not be accurate by the time you read this post, so please take this information with a grain of salt. However, it serves as a sort of template that you can fill in with current prices to get a more accurate estimate.

Of course, more information is needed, but don’t worry—in future posts, we’ll discuss production using the cards I have and their PP (Production Points). So, all of this serves as a guide not only for understanding the costs but also for estimating the income you’ll earn as a landowner.
